Ok, cylinders 1-2-6 have gone in my car (RB25DET)

Long story why, but now it needs a rebuild :D

I've thought about 3ltr, but for the time being, lets just look at the RB25 as the motor i am rebuilding.

I have a max budget of $7000 to spend on the motor end of things.

So guys, what can i get for my money?

And how can my money be spent best to get the best results on a limited budget.

I know i need forged pistons of some description. But other than that i am not sure.

The power figure i'm aiming for is around 300-330rwkw after the build, so it has to be a strong motor.

Which then brings me to rods... do i need them too? I imagine that i will have too.

My Redline will be set at a conservative 7500rpm, but if i can increase to 8500 within my budget it i wont complain.

At this stage i want someone to do it for me.

But in saying that, if it's going to cost me too much money to pay a workshop...

I do have a few mates who can help me out in thier spare time.

That though, means more down-time for the car as it'll be in their spare time which they dont have a lot of.

Any advice/tips and approximate prices would be appreciated guys.

Am i being un-realitic wanting it rebuild for $7000?

or me..

your mates huh? and how long did it take for that turbo to go in...

then again certain workshops won't be much better. Least if you do as much as possible yourself, you only have yourself to chase up to get stuff done. Then again, if you stuff something up, you only have yourself to blame as well :D

Ok i've got my 31 in bits at the moment and just getting all the parts together to get the rb25det back together.

I'm going to spend about $4k all up on the engine on:

-forged pistons (arias, wiseco or je gear)

-cams (around the 265 8.7-9mm lift mark)

-crank & GTR rods balanced (maybe cryo treated)

-new arp rodbolts, gaskets, seals, clevite bearings

Although I’m getting all my machining done for next to nothing I’m sure you could do a nice rebuild for 7k if you are willing to do most of the work yourself.

But dont take this as 100% correct advice till i get the bloody thing back together and running :headspin:

John

in HPI theres an add for

Venolia forged pistons

Grant chrome rings R.E.V I-Beam forged conrods

Tomei metal head gasket

genuine nissan full engine gasket kit

they say its good for 600ps+ sounds ok to me

$3999

Righto my RB20DET blew in my r32 - Now for my rebuild it costed - hang on see this link :

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...&highlight=joel

I have done all work so far myself (Ripping out rb20 and installing new rb31det)

Parts list :

rb30e block

rb25de head

r33 gearbox

OS GIKEN twin plate

sinle piece tailshaft

AP Power fc + HC

550cc injectors

STP cam gear

600x300x70 IC

HKS 3037s with manifold (im organizing atm)

Motor was built with head and timing setup using wiesco forgies, balanced, bored 40 thou over, ported head etc cost all up (as a long motor) roughly $5500 without using forged rods. Add another $1600 -1800 for them on top of final price.

Other parts all together costin goughly $6000.

Then add cost of tuning car, then retune once run in, + install camgear turbo + manifold + cost of new pipework.

Still havent bought cams (after run in) or the fuel pump or z32 - which i need asap.

Should be RELIABLE up to about 330rwkw is as far as i want to go everyday, and pull close to 700Nm of tourque

Give u an idea when to stop spending??

rather than reinvent the wheel a standard rb26 with low mount turbo upgrade should come in around budget and produce 300rwkw.

I'm not reinventing any wheels!

I've got all the other stuff to get me too 300rwkw, just not the motor to hold.

your mates huh? and how long did it take for that turbo to go in...

I took around a month and a half, but it was a lot of work i must admit.

And like i said, it was all done in spare time which there isnt much of these days. :D

mesmer has the right idea rb 26 crank and rods and good forgies metal head gasket cams if you want and clean up the head a bit. n1 water and oil pumps.

Does putting in a 26 crank/rods still have it as a 2.5ltr?

and while its out a good clutch

also go the injectors etc if you arent already.

I've got all the 'extras' that you need all covered already :(

I might have to grab me a copy of HPI !
