45LDE
okay i have a R32 with a RB20DET and before putting it in the shed it was running mint didnt miss a beat. And its been almost 2 years and iv gone to start it and found it very hard to start and when it did i had to hold the throttle on to keep it alive and is coughing and spluttering, high fuel smell from the exhaust. I changed the plugs and drained the fuel and added fresh stuff in and it didnt help. Checked spark all good. so i started to pull the plugs off the coils to work out what cyls are down and i believe at least the first 2 are not going and even maybe the 3rd as well. As there was really no difference with the coil unplugged. have i got clogged injectors? or some thing deeper? They are Sard 550cc, they were installed about 3yrs ago from new. Hot33r8723
Dryed up valve stem seals in that cylinders creates loss of Compression aka down a cylinder Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/406065-rb20det-down-cyls-after-sitting-in-the-shed-for-over-a-year/#findComment-6469318 Share on other sites

Needs a good flogging most likey be injectors of If Loss Of compression Dryed valve stem seals I changed the plugs and drained the fuel and added fresh stuff in and it didnt help. zebra
Errr no Stem seals have no effect on compression Check for corroded connections to the coils, afm etc If its pumping out black smoke it's spark related Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/406065-rb20det-down-cyls-after-sitting-in-the-shed-for-over-a-year/#findComment-6469322 Share on other sites

Hot33r8723
Run some injector cleaner through it Might be stale fuel of if loss of Compression replace Valve stem seals Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/406065-rb20det-down-cyls-after-sitting-in-the-shed-for-over-a-year/#findComment-6469327 Share on other sites
Hot33r8723
Stem seals are to block pressure from Leavin the combustion chamber some Times they dry up allowing pressure past valve guides which result in loss of compresion down a Cylinder Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/406065-rb20det-down-cyls-after-sitting-in-the-shed-for-over-a-year/#findComment-6469335 Share on other sites
zebra
No, that's the valves job, the seals stop oil from leaking down from the head into the combustion chamber Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/406065-rb20det-down-cyls-after-sitting-in-the-shed-for-over-a-year/#findComment-6469337 Share on other sites
