No is the answer to almost all your questions.

No, you can't use mail.gmail.com as the outgoing mail server on your bigpond account.

No, you can't send as your bigpond address from a Gmail account via the iPhone interface, although you should be able to do it using the Gmail app (there is an official one) or the Gmail web interface.

By far your best option is to setup a Gmail or Google Apps account, and check your Bigpond account using this, and migrate across to the Google account.

Either that or have this conversation with Telstra, and see if they have a config that will work with other networks.

Wouldn't the easiest way to send an email from your Bigpond account while OS be to simply log in via your browser, in the same way you would log into hotmail, etc. sure it won't be as nice as using the app, but it will get the job done.

create a gmail account. in a full version browser (on your pc/mac) go to settings >> accounts and import, in gmail. set up your bigpond account in there.

gmail will automatically retrieve any of your bigpond emails sitting on the bigpond mail server.

set up your bigpond email as an alias in gmail. select 'reply from the same address email was sent to'

stick with the default settings for most things.

send and receive mail from anywhere anytime using gmail.

install gmail to your aidsphone.

google this shit. there are step by step guides. its simple. should take you 10 minutes.

i went further, and had my mail directly forward to gmail, and created filters whereby everything is labelled and sorted.

this removes the random refresh times you get when using non-gmail addresses in gmail.

but thats another story.

OR

do what marc said.

Are you using your SIM from oz or have you bought a SIM from there?

Unfortunately with bigpond, as Ryan mentioned, you cannot send emails, only receive them and creating a gmail account is the easiest way around it.

However,

There is one other way around it which can sometimes work. You'll need to make the outgoing server that of whichever network you are using overseas eg. If your phone is using a Vodafone server, change your outgoing server to smtp.vodafone.net.au (being overseas, the "net.au" bit will be different). Some networks like Optus change the "smtp" bit and use mail.optusnet.com.au.

Again, this may or may not work.

Bigpond is one of those ISPs that are dicky to use when you're overseas.

    • Hey everyone!!  I've noticed that whenever I do my oil changes, after putting 4L in, the oil level sits at the top mark in the dipstick. This is after letting the old oil drain for a very long time too! I've checked the oil level daily for the past few mornings. It happens every time and it's confusing because all the threads say that it should take about 4.7L (With some just adding the full 5L) My next thought is to figure out if the dipstick I have is correct so could someone please tell me the length of the RB25DET engine oil dipstick?  I've checked images of some of the genuine dipsticks, but none of them have the length in it. https://justjap.com/products/genuine-nissan-engine-oil-level-dipstick-fits-nissan-r34-skyline-c34-stagea-c35-laurel-y34-cedric-gloria-rb25de-t-neo?currency=AUD&srsltid=AfmBOortQXofgmiHVRKuIaiKuygL4k0Ewp68c3isGZk0vvKOJ7Yqf3iB However.... the engraving on the genuine ones say 05002 while mine says AA000. This makes me believe that maybe I have a wrong dipstick? I just want to confirm before I buy a new one. The car is a fresh import from Japan so I don't have details of the previous owner to ask him. Thanks in advance 🙏🏾
