Cold Start R34 Gtr Tomei Poncams Problem

Just wondering if anyone else is having a problem with their GTR having tomei poncams (and no aftermarket cam gears!) installed and starting in the cold. When I start my car cold the engine almost cuts out at idle. Is this happening to anyone else? Would cam gears help this??

It might depend on which poncams were installed Michael but...

Can you and your mechanic do a comp test?

> if required, check if your belt has slipped a tooth on the cam gear?

> if so, what belt brand is it?

n11smo has had his VS2 at a painter 2 weeks ago

> it has Tomei poncams and cam gears

> painter couldn't start (cold Penrith temp)

> car got towed

> inspection revealed that the belt had slipped big time

> belt does not look like OEM or Nismo

> all the valves down one side are bent

> JapLink is "looking after" n11smo as an act of compassion

Offender was the poncam on inlet? Or the belt (gates)? Or the painter starting the car who may have revved it whilst moving it? Don't know.

Tez I have the type B poncams and compression on all 6 cylinders is 170 psi.....it may very well be the timing belt. It'sa good thing then that I just ordered a nismo one and Tomei cam gears also I'll keep you posted and let you know if they fix the problem once installed.

Lesson learnt.

Upgrade belt when upgrading cam gears and camshafts.
