Need Help Deciding

Hey Guys,

I need everyones opinions regarding the following cars that I am interesting in purchasing.

1996 S2 R33 GTR V-Spec

2000 R34 GT-T

2000 Subaru Impreza STi V6

2000 S15 Spec R GT

2000 S15 Spec R Jap Spec

1976 Honda Civic Hatch........ only joking (project car later)

It's too hard to decide. The GTR has great (easy) power potential and 4WD. Though styling and age has started to become a factor. The R34 GTT has great styling is still fairly new and has good stock power. Power upgrades are a bit more complicated and doesn't have the 4WD advantage. The Subaru is new, I love the sound they make and are fairly quick standard, though I don't wish the be stuck with constant 4WD. (turbo and RWD = FUN). I have heard you can get an electronic center diff for them from the jap spec one, but I wasn't sure on pricing and if it allowed full RWD. The S15 has similar appeal to me as the R34.. new, stylish, and good stock power. Addons to the S15 are a little easier than the R34 too I believe. Jap spec S15 has nice bonuses that I like in a car.... Extra power, extra options. Eg. Climate control, water spray.

Opinions would be nice.

1996 S2 R33 GTR V-Spec = Lots of power potentional. people here will luv ya. :P but not as easy to stick out from the pack as they starting to look dated and more and more bogans with gtsts try to make their cars look like gtrs!

2000 R34 GT-T = Something a bit different, but likely to become common soon. not very powerful compared to other cars of same engine size and not as tuneable

2000 Subaru Impreza STi V6 = ???didnt even know they had a v6??? or is that version 6?

2000 S15 Spec R GT = nice car, got looks and a bit of power under the blet with a nice torquey egine that can be tuneable.

2000 S15 Spec R Jap Spec = same as above, but a little more power than oz spec when stock. but who cares? you can catch up with that power easily with simple modifications

Might be fun to do: get the pics of all 4 cars nexto eachother and think, if i was in that car club, which car would i want to drive :P

I have little experience with these cars unfortunately but id say the top 3 are your best bet, not too much of a fan of the s15. For the WRX you thinking of the 2 or 4 door ?

WRX is no fun. I came from one and it really hid the fact that I wasn't all that fantasic behind the wheel. The GTR taught me and taught me well. In my opinion, the GTR will always be more the drivers car, especially in V spec form.

If you want something for the road, it's split with the S15 or the R34. I like the look of the S15 but they seem more common than R34's. Maybe it's just where I live???

Everytime I think I have made up my mind (which is usually the R33 GTR v-spec) I end up reconsidering because of it's age.... then when I way up the amount of money I would need to spend on the alternatives to get the power I could get out of the GTR easily I change my mind again....

Arhhhh... Time will tell, I'm going to try and organise a mate of mine to get his mate to show me his car :| R33 GTR V-SPEC Series 2... I have never been for a "real" drive in one before

If i had 40k then i think id go looking for an S15. Dont need so much power when you have only 1300kg to pull around, as opposed to an R33 GTR at 1600kg.

If i could go back in time and have all the money i have spent on my R32 in my pocket right now, id buy an S15. That said if i came accross an R33 GTR, even an R32 GTR that represented a good buy then id get it, as i like them all equally and the value of what it is im purchasing would make up my mind.

Have you driven the cars your considering? That may soon change yor mind,

It depends on what you want from a car. There are some who say that the GT-R is the way to go. I can understand that - it's a GT-R. It is also the most expensive option in just about every way.

I truely believe that RWD is the way to go. You know that all these manufacturers who have stuck to the RWD platform must have something right. I also believe that simplicity and light weight is something missing in cars today. I can go with such things as airbags and ABS but I don't believe in intrusive technology like traction control.

If you had a 180sx before, the S15 is probably too familiar in many ways. This is a Skyline forum so the 34 and the GT-R would likely get the nod but both cars have their drawbacks.

Perhaps something more like an RX8 if your budget allows?

I think a S15 with a few mods is almost as quick as a GTR in a straight line. With an exhaust, boost, and things seem to do comfortable mid-12's to low 13's. Newer car, etc. Depends if you like 6cylinder, or 4cylinder revviness.

WRX even in STi form i think are slower than people tend to make out. They will handle well with "foot to floor, turn" type simpleness but maybe that would get boring. Only drove one once and didn't impress me heaps.

Depends what you want. Do you want something that was sold locally? Do you want something where handling is king? How much do you want to modify it? Do you want comfort and style rather than raw speed? Most importantly: What can you afford? (insurance cost, etc inclusive). All these questions are the ones you should be answering.
