See what light? I'm not disagreeing with Markos or his methods. Not everyone wants to train the same way as everyone else, why is that so difficult to grasp?

I started this thread because there was so much stuff being posted that I didnt agree with in other threads, but I realize that not everyone wants to be strong

This thread is for those that do

So my posts in my powerlifting thread will always be about increasing your 1RM

Looks like I'm going to be getting lots of bench practice for the next week or two

did something to my lower back... right down the bottom, near my upper glutes... can't bend over at all... sitting and standing are very painful... lying down is okay... getting dressed is a challenge... might just go to bed clothed, will make things easier tomorrow lol

I've strained my erectors before but this is different... lower down and much more painful

I'm lifting at Nats... even if I have to do so in a wheelchair... so my back can kiss my arse

Sacrum strain or alignment issue maybe?

vagina is usually on the front.

Definitely see a physio to start with.

leg movements hurt it? Like if you swing your leg back and forth or side to side?

hurt to twist upper body?

there's two vaginas... a front one and a back one;)

yep will be seeing Jason Mawby as soon as i get the correct phone number lol

leg movements are okay... walking not too bad... hurts to twist

anything remotely like a deadlift movement hurts the worst... TBH I'm pretty sure I did it last week... thought it was just tightness/soreness so I did a long warm up and lots of rolling... felt sore but I went for my working set anyway... it didn't pop or anything just knew as soon as I'd finished the set I was in trouble

just hit it with the hot water bottle and it's a bit better... which leads me to think it's just a strain... hopefully I can just skip squats/deads this week and it comes good

Wayne and Liam on crutches, you with "old man" back, the team spends more time helping than lifting lol

Its only going to get worse with Emads broken arm.

Wayne slipped on a roof and cut his leg very badly... Liam has a knee issue that he had surgery for... surgery didn't work but then they found another issue that needs time to heal

I think I hurt my back as a direct result of giving Wayne crap about having to load his plates for him... karma is a bitch

I'm off to see Jason tomorrow morning, then drop in at PTC for a bench session after... hopefully it's just an alignment issue, maybe a pinched nerve that can be fixed with some manipulation

That time of the year again. A few of my guys are riding that fine red line atm as they prep the final stages for nats.

Seeing emads snap has shocked a few of the guys into spending more time on

Mobility - rehab and prehab is up more than normal.

Saw Jason this morning, have to go back on Thu after I get my X rays

he told me to stand in front of the mirror and showed me how crooked I am... it was ridiculous and weird that I've never noticed it before

he did say it's possible I have bulging or slipped disk but I think I'd be in much more pain... definitely no nerve damage which is good... lots of ice for the next 48hrs

hopefully the ice will reduce the inflammation, the x rays will be clear and some manipulation will have me back lifting in a week or two

he did say once he gets me straightened out I should see a strength increase

on a brighter note I benched 125kg x 3 for 3 sets... still on track for my first 3 plate bench press

lol......no amount of prehab would save anyone from what happened to Emad

The operation is tonight, they are doing a biopsy on his bone to find the cause of the snap, as in disease, it has nothing to do with lifting weights, your humerus doesnt snap benching 110kg. It doesnt snap benching 400kg. It snaps if there is an issue with the bone.

I know mate lol. I should have clarified.

His was a freak accident.

Nothing could have prevented it.

It's pretty rare though I haven't seen such a break before.

Any specialist ideas on what caused it?

Plenty of guys bench for years without snapping it as such.

Keep us updated on how his going after op.

    • As someone who has been playing with turbo things for some time now, be prepared for this to not be the first time feeling this way    I'm busy as atm, but if no one else covers the things I'm realising are worth mentioning to you then I will when I have a chance as it seems like I overestimated your knowledge on how turbos and wastegates work.  Otherwise I recommend having a look around how wastegates and boost control work, really anything on understanding the general mechanism of boost control as it will help you find the answers to the questions you're looking for.  Your initial question jumps some fundamentals.
    • I don't understand anything anymore.
    • so this is an anomaly??? I thought it was a voluntary increase
    • we can only guess exactly what happened from our keyboards, but to me it looks like they were targeting 27 but the wastegate was too small or poorly controlled and the boost crept up, that is quite common
    • Good points!  Took those for granted - though I *did* actually give an example of winding boost up more than it had been before where I wasn't actually specifically looking for more peak power.  The Toyota Starlet dyno plot that I shared and mentioned showed an overlay from the previous tune it had and the one I'd redone, I left the boost targetting the same as the old tune but then after peak power I ramped boost up by a good 5psi or so over what the old tune had at the same rpm. The reason I felt comfortable with this (though the owner of the car had a "are you sure?" moment when I suggested it) is that the setup wasn't turbo limited, it was largely head sealing limited and the owner was a bit concerned as for the last few seasons he'd had issues with head lifting - sometimes not completing an event without having some headgasket issue, so he didn't want to run any more boost than it was. The reasons I was ok with raising the boost a good 5+psi MORE than that was that I left it where it was in the middle, and only increased it where VE (and therefore cylinder pressure vs psi) were dropping hard and I didn't stop the torque from dropping, just reduced the drop.  Well, there is that and the fact that the previous tuner had it overtimed by near 7degrees at peak torque - but that's another story haha.    I didn't really go into detail about that "turning it up more" thing but now you've mentioned the "not detuning", sometimes the boost *can* be turned up higher than you'd expect if the setup allows for it and you do it smartly.  I've tuned things to run 30psi on BP98 "safely" that a few years ago (or still?) people would cry that it was a stupid idea - but given they were well intercooled, low EMAP turbos and only doing that kind of boost where VE is dropping etc I was pretty confident it wasn't as cowboy as it sounded at face value and we never ended up with issues as a result of it.
