My next clutch if this one ever gives up, is a twin from npc

One of my friends has a Twin plate Cushion button NPC in his R33 with a 26/30. Says its the best clutch he's ever driven with. I've only felt the pedal which was nice and soft but I think I'll get my clutch reco'ed when the engines out and if it one day gives up ill go the twin.

My Exedy cushion button shuddered a whole lot more then the NPC, and the pedal was harder and it gave up after just over a year. Dont take all the good words about NPC as over-exageration. They make a great product

Theres a reason so many of us say NPC.

Exactally. I dont just say it because I have one so therefore everyone should have one. I slip mine off the lights (slightly) all day everyday, which should be killing the thing. But I've had it just over 2 years now and it has never missed a beat.

I'm a pictures man, anyone got a shot of an NPC? I'd prefer not busting anyones balls at the suppliers directly as I don't wanna waste their time if I don't end up buying. Rather bust everyones balls here!!

Have driven a few JB clutches. Yeah, no. Not a fan.

My Coppermix twin has done no less than 250 big RPM launches in its life (been in the car for 7 years in total). Pulled it out when I lunched then engine and its going straight back in. No rebuild, no new plates, no nothing. (There is pics of the plates in my build thread)

Feels a tad heavier than standard (esp with the Nismo slave).

There has been many threads about these things. Everyone that owns one won't use anything else. Speaks for itself I think.

+1, driven a 32 GTR with one of these Jim Berry 'full monty' I'd say it's vaguest clutch I've tried.

Out of these two clutches, go for Nismo Coppermix twin, these Nismo can cop proper punishment as Paul have taken me few high RPM launch, so did other chaps with these Coppermixs. Can't say about NPC as I've yet to sample one.

If you're wanting to be a man, I'd recommend OS Giken Triple had one in my previous GTR, surprisingly easy to use in traffic as they're not that bad people make them to be (I daily drive my previous cars and I plan to daily my next car).

Do the other clutches come with a new lightened flywheel, release (thrust) bearing and flywheel bolts.

I'd say I'd done at least 350 launches during the 18months i had mine. So son of rajab knows how many were done before i purchased it... It did die eventually.

But also include launching from 8200rpm with drag radials (could smell it after every run). None the less the coppermix still held in there for another 6 months after that day @ motive. Plenty of 4WD circle work and clutch pops to get some 4WD sliding going on.

Coppermix all the way.

Clutches can over heat my mates NPC wealded itself to the flywheel he bought a new plate and wacked it in all good...

the JB clutches he uses the cover and everything else is new so i would say they are a pretty much a brand new clutch, mates had a excedy hyper single built by him with a solid center and its great so nice to drive better than the excedy junk i had in mine!

the full monty clutch is a generic rebuild not specifically built for anything if you want a custom clutch you have to ask and get it built to what you want.

the worlds fastest H pattern VL uses a JB clutch and how bloody hard does that thing get launched !!!

I have only ever had the standard and the JB carbonic 6 puk to compare, so I can only give an opinion based on the differences.

Standard organic burnt out within 1 month of ownership, did about two 5000rpm launches.

Spoke to Jim about what I had and what my intentions were. He had a new 6puk 1800kg clamp in the shop which was sent down as soon as I could get him off the phone.

JB clutch has lasted 6 years so far, several 8000rpm launches, many 5000rpm launches and many SAU track days as well as general driving. I could feel the damage the 8000rpm launches were doing so stopped doing them. Car has made between 240 to 316kw during this time. The uptake of the clutch is very short but slipable with experience, it is also very light to use. The local Skyline mechanics were very impressed with the feel of the clutch.

The whole JB clutch cost me $1200 at the time, no need to send parts back.

I have no idea if the Nismo is better, it should be at double the price. I also understand Jim is very affordable at repairing his clutches as well, so something else to consider.

clutches are simple, it's force verse traction, the more torque you have and the more traction you've got the better your clutch needs to be, a modded 2.6 with 4WD go a twin plate

clutch are the same as brakes the more friction area you have and the more clamping force on offer the better/easier the clutch will hold on

so your looking at a single plate with 5 puks verse two full discs of the same material, the single plate would need to have a lot of clamping force to match the twin

clamping force is what give the clutch its pedal feel ( though there are tricks to help make the pedal lighter but they can only do so much ) so the more clamping force the hard the pedal feels

I had 5 single plates in 3 years the last of which was a custom pressure plate with 2500kgs of clamping force, I payed for two new clutch kits then they pulled them apart and put both spring plates into one pressure plate, I can't remember how many puks the clutch plate had but we worked out the surface area of each different late and used the one with the most area, as the torque of the car increased the clutches couldn't hold it, even this one only lasted 8 months the occasional trip to the drags

after that I had had enough and forked out for an Exedy twin plate ( identical to the Nismo coppermax ) and that clutch has been in the car for 7 years and is holding another 60rwkw and a dozen or so low 11 second passes, 3 texis and a few trackdays ( one of which was me at EC by my self for 6 hrs till the dip stick flew out and covered the engine bay with oil) the motor came out for a rebuild 2-3 years ago and the clutch looked almost new and went straight back in and the car drives like the stock clutch and doesn't make a sound to give away it's in there and there are a few people on here that will state how I treat this clutch or you came come to the next texi and you can see for your self the punishment it takes and how easy it is to drive
