Windscreen Demister Gone Weird!

The last couple of cold mornings my windsceen has fogged as per usual, i put the demister on and nothing happens, the fan works and there is heat coming out but it does not demist, i tried using the aircon but still nothing, i have noticed the smell of coolant in the car some times so i guess the heater core needs changing but surely that would not stop the demister from working?

Air con dries the air clearing the window. Your air con mustn't be working. Run it out normal vents on max cold and you might find its not cold. That smell might have been the gas that leaked
