Hey guys.

Firstly, Hi! I just bought a coupe last week... such a beautiful car and it is a dream to drive.

So, as you would all know, the radio doesn't work here. This is fine with me. I've been in contact with Chris, but I figure he's a hard guy to get a hold of sometimes.

He said something about a GROM unit. This is exactly what I want - something that I can use to plug my phone into.. or bluetooth.

Does anyone know if this one for the G35 works?- http://gromaudio.com..._interface.html

Or if anyone knows the link to the one I need? My phone is ANDROID and I have the BOSE audio system in my car without SAT NAV

Also, is it difficult to install? Is it easy to DIY? What does it involve?

I know there's a FAQ.. but it doesn't really answer my question.

Thanks in advance.

Hey mate, from what i know and asked around, this device will not work with the JDM vehicles as they dont have the Satellite Radio built in like the USDM have and these products always specifically say that your stereo needs to have the "SAT" button in order for the product to work.

Thanks for that.

Which out these would be right?

Or this one?

Do I need the one with the cd changer thing or something else? I'm a tad confused about it all to be honest.

When you say "plug my phone into" are you looking for a hands free kit, or just want to use your phone as an audio input to the stereo?

If you want a Bluetooth kit that integrates with the stereo, Chris has something. I had a Motorola hands-free kit that I pulled out of another car a few years ago, and I have mounted that.

If you just want an Aux input, you can make up a cable that connects to the TV unit in the boot, and put a socket somewhere in the front of the car. I did this last week - I put a 3mm socket inside the console, and can plug any audio device with an audio out (or headphone) socket into it, choose Aux input on the stereo, and listen to music. I have to use the phone to change tracks etc - the car controls can't interact with the phone.

If you want the car radio to recieve Aus FM stations, you need a band expander. Because the 350Gt has a diversity aerial, you will also need a couple of aerial adaptors - one to convert from the dual in aerial cable to the input of the band expander, and another to convert from the output of the band expander to the aerial socket of the radio. The band expander also require a 12V source to power it - you can splice into the switched power to the radio while you have it out. Note that you will have to remove the radio to put the band expander in. The band expand simply changed the frequency of the recieved signal - mine is a 20MHz model, so it reduces the frequency by 20MHz. If I want to recieve a station that is transmitting on 102,3Mhz, I tune the radio to 82.3Mhz etc.

I did all 3 jobs at the same time - the aux input cable, the band expander, and the bluetooth kit. ther are how-tos available for getting the radio out, and for the wiring of the aux input cable. The parts for the band expander came from ebay - you need 1 each of the following:

Nissan diversity adaptor aftermarket radio - OE antenna

Nissan diversity adaptor aftermarket antenna - OE radio

Japan car radio FM band Frequency Expander Converter add 20MHz to your FM dial

Total cost with shipping was just under $50

If you need more info just ask - while it's fresh in my ageing brain:)

Great! Thanks so much for the response! I don't need a radio.. It's something that I really never ever listen to so the frequency expander isn't necessary at all.

When I mean phone.. I really don't mind either way. Bluetooth would be great.. But an auxiliary connection is all I need. I've lived happily in the past without it.

Now, you say that there is a connection in the boot?! I don't have a navigation system in my car.. I thought this option was only available to people with the navigation unit? So if you could confirm this for me.. Then I would be more than happy with this option! Basically I just want some way to listen to music off my phone.. In the cheapest and nicest way possible.

Chris told me that GROM unit was my only option. If you know anything about this.. Could you direct me to the right path? Thanks for your help!

I used to think the same thing. Was driving a mates ute through the new tunnel here in Brisbane and since he has crap music, I just had the radio on. Since they were still doing construction work, the radio stopped playing and the control centre sent me a message stating that certain exits were cliosed and these are the exits I should take as a detour. Was soooooo coool!

Not sure about the no-nav option - mine has nav. In the boot, remove the spare tyre, then remove the 2 10mm nuts just to the left of the tyre. The black cover on the left hand side of the boot will pull towards the right, then lift out. Under the black cover is some electronics - on the bottom is the Bose amplifier, and on top is another box that I think is the TV unit. The aux input connects to an unused socket on the LHS of the TV unit. I would think if you've got the TV unit, you should be able to use an aux input. I'll see if I can find some pics a bit later - just heading out now. Where are you?

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi everyone. Bumping this thread again.

I've been researching these units. Does anyone know if this one will work?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=271032063920#ht_4005wt_1139

It is based off of the CD-changer.. do our factor stereos have something like this!? I contacted GROM in the US and they seem to _think_ this might work since we don't have the SAT/CAT option in our cars. They said that if the radio is anything like theirs without SAT/CAT.. it should be fine. Just need to double check! You guys would know the back of the factory stereo better than I do!

Of course, there is a compatibility list there, but our imports are nowhere to be seen on the list.

I know absolutely nothing about this topic.. but I'm looking to add the bluetooth dongle and that'll keep me happy without spending loads on a new HU.

Again, I've contacted Chris, but I'm sure he's a busy man these days.

Sorry, I didn't get to this last night.. I got home fairly late.

I have attached a scan from the clarion FSM.. but this is for the G35 HU, so not sure if it will be the same as the JDM HU.

Might help though.

I will endevor to have a look at the JDM one at home tonight.

let us know how u go with that Grom unit will be great cheers

Well, after all of my research and everything else, I decided to pop into Audio Express and Chris is getting one in to do for me next Saturday. Bluetooth and android control.

If you're looking to buy one to do yourself, from what I found out.. The 350GT uses the cd changer port! So, it's the cable that is called Nis02_cdc.

  • 2 months later...

Seen in another post Chris has a workshop in Reveseby NSW?

I bought a 2005 V35 250GT sedan a few months back (said premium on the advert. Has all leather interior, seat warmers but stereo doesn't have BOSE on it so doubt its premium). Had a guy from Japlink motors install a iPhone cable so I could listen to Audio and play video on the screen. also had a FM Radio mod put in. The audio/video works fine but obviously doesn't charge the phone and the reception on the FM radio is garbage. Now with the change to the Mobile phone laws in NSW I was hoping to find somewhere i can get a cradle wired in that will allow me to keep the Audio/Video but also charge the phone. Also would like to get bluetooth installed through the radio and be able to use the steering wheel controls to operate the phone. would also need to get an aerial booster so I get quality FM signal

Can this be done on the V35? I Have seen a few vids from the US that have been able to do this on the G35 but nothing in Aus

If it can be done what kind of $damage$ am i looking at?

If Chris doesn't still do work here in Sydney can someone point me to someone who can?

Also still waiting for the English conversion. Have been keeping an eye on the Xanavi website and was due out November but keeps getting pushed back. Now says January.
