that is your 5th post Hosh. You haven't been on here all week, I know this because I've been checking, and surprise you just *happen* to log on on a Thursday of all days looking for an excuse to drive fast again. It would seem that you have no genuine interest in cars, your driving skills, listening, being a member of a group, or contributing at all.

I was surfing the net the other day and found a site that might be a little more up your alley. Boostcruising.com plus they're having a black tie ball soon. you can get dressed up and everything.

If you posted something meaningful during the week or even bothered to go to the whoretown to chat to some of us I was going to cut you some slack. But you didn't. So very very sorry. Better luck next time.

Other than that I hope you enjoy reading and posting on the forums and that you might gain some insight into your vehicle.

WTF Happened!!?!?

I mean I been on a cruise with owned and go through twisty turny bits at night and for about 30 full minutes NOT see his headlights behind me, which is why when we stopped I asked him not to follow so close, I did not get pissed at him or anything, it just boiled down to driving experiance, plus he did not have a radio for to hear me yelling out to him to freakin back off.

All that said I shudder to think what this poor schmuk did to cause such a kuffuffle!

I disagree Cyrus... It's got nothing to do with driving experience... It's common sense for one and secondly, "following to closely" is illegal and learnt when studying for your learners...

Hosh has apologised and thats great... But he shouldn't have been there in the first place. He was not prepared (no radio) and more than likely won't be welcome on any further cruises...

I for one would be just as cranky as Charly in the same situation...

I think it's great that this guy apologised and I think we should all give him a break. YES it was bad for him to be tail gating on a mountain. But he might not have done one before. Yes it's common sense not to tail gate someone, but everyones opinion of tailgating is different.

Maybe instead of just going off our nuts at him, we should explain some of the common courtesy rules of going on a mountain run. Wouldn't that be more civilised?

ines is when you are too close and if you have to break at 60 km that you wont hit the person in front of you.

however, i wouldnt want someone on my arse the entire time, so I would give them the wave to pass or I would pull over at some intersection to let them pass. most of the time I drive to the speed limit, but up mt nebo, thouse limits are too high for some spots on the road. thats where you see most of the unbarked trees.

drive safely and if you believe you want to race. go do it at 4am in the morning when now one is up there.

well i am with cyrice and erin, yeah he shouldnt have been following to close its just common sence, but he should still be welcome on the cruises maybe mountain runs are not for him. give him a chance it was his first sau cruise. now that he is wiser about our cruise etticate he should be fine. unless he reoffends i am sure he will be sweet.

    • Have you put an aftermarket oil pressure gauge on and verified your oil pressure?   Noise being on the block, on exhaust side, how high up the block does it seem to be? It could be the VCT system getting cranky, especially if it's mainly at idle, and when warm, as that'll be your lowest point for oil pressure. Could be showing that oil passages / VCT solenoid are blocking.
    • Well, hydraulic lifters will get noisy if they are dirty/fouled in some way, and exactly how that manifests will depend on exactly what schmutz is where. There is a procedure on here somewhere for dismantling and soaking/cleaning them. Replacing them with new is about 50% of the work and about 5% of the money!
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy this is is a hydraulic lifter engine. Yea right i did not realise the lifters were supposed to be compressible while installed. I could push them down but i had to lean almost my while body weight on them.  I have never heard of a lifter/ lifters ticking only at hot idle and getting worse the hotter it gets. I have owned a few jdm cars with noisy lifters. This noise is slightly more subtle, it is more of a sharp gentle metalic tic than the solid and more loud tapping I've heard on lifters. I have used a metal rod, alloy tube, hose and stethoscope and could not find the source of the tick. But it appears to be loudest on the actual engine block behind the exhaust cam gear and next to the oil filter. I had mate (40 year old mechanic) go over it with me and he couldn't find it either..  Could it be a cam seal issue of some sort?  Cheers
    • This seems problematic and unlikely at the same time. Vanilla RB2Xs have hydraulic lifters. They do have "zero" clearance, but only when running with oil pressure inside them. When not running, you should be able to compress them and obtain heaps of clearance. RB26s and Neos have solid lifters. They should have ~0.3mm and ~0.5mm on the inlet and exhaust respectively. If they have zero clearance then bad things are happening. With nothing else being wrong, it would mean that the valves would be held slightly (ever so slightly) open when they are supposed to be closed and it should have all sorts of problems when running, caused by leakage in/out through the valves. Or, zero clearance can indicate severe valve seat recession. None of it is good. Have you used a piece of hose as a stethoscope to try to localise the noise?
