Hmmm, you should watch what you are talking about. As for his suggestion of putting a proper non turbo motor in there is the smartest decision you will ever make.

As for why your car is running shit? Its because the turbo is missing doofus. And want to know another thing? Your non turbo'd car is still illegal for you to drive on your p's because it was registered as a turbo.

So instead of spitting in people's faces like a spoilt brat, just take what he says and reply in a manner as follows, no thank you, I would rather try something else

The 2.5 L RB25 engine was produced in four forms:

  • RB25DE - NON-TURBO twin-cam 140 kW/190 PS (180 - 200 hp ) @ 6000 rpm, 255 N·m (26.0 kgf·m) @ 4000 rpm)
  • RB25DET - twin-cam TURBO (T3 Turbo) (245 to 250 hp and 319 N·m)
  • NEO RB25DE- NON-TURBO twin-cam 147 kW/200 PS @ 6000 rpm, 255 N·m (26.0 kgf·m) @ 4000 rpm)
  • NEO RB25DET - twin-cam TURBO (206 kW (280 PS) @ 6400 rpm, 362 N·m (37.0 kgf·m) @ 3200 rpm)

RB25DE and DET engines produced from August 1993 also featured NVCS (Nissan Variable Cam System) for the intake cam. This gave the new RB25DE more power and torque at lower rpm than the previous model. From 1995,(Series 2 Engines) both the RB25DE and RB25DET had a revised electrical system and the turbo charger on the RB25DET(s2) had a plastic compressor wheel rather than aluminium. The most obvious change to the system was the introduction of ignition coils with built in ignitors, therefore the coil ignitor that was on previous models was not used. Other changes were, different air flow meter, engine ecu, cam angle sensor and throttle position sensor. Mechanically series 1 and series 2 very similar, the only mechanical difference would be the Camshafts as the series 2 Cam Angle Sensor's shaft that goes into the Exhaust cam is slightly different. This is very important to not mistake!

In May 1998 a NEO head was fitted, which enabled the engine to be classified as a low emission vehicle (LEV) engine due to their lower fuel consumption and emission output. The NEO head featured solid lifters rather than hydraulic, revised camshafts, with on/off solenoid Variable VCT , used a hotter 82°c thermostat, model specific coil packs and a revised inlet manifold (the runner diameter is reduced from 50mm to 45mm to increase air velocity and low end torque) in particular the RB25DE NEO which had 2 inlets going into the inlet manifold. The combustion chamber of the head is smaller so GT-R spec connecting rods are used to compensate as well as model specific pistons. The turbo received the larger OP6 turbine which some came with steel compressor and turbine wheels, where others had the Nylon plastic compressor wheel and ceramic turbine wheel. Some also used an N1 type oil pump and had the oil pump drive collar on the crank revised to help cope with the breakage problems associated with fast, high revs. All in all they are quite a different engine in their own right - a culmination of 20 years of Nissan RB engine building rolled into one.

The non-VCT, non-turbo RB25DE was fitted to the R32 Skyline, the VCT turbo and non-turbo was fitted to R33 Skylines and the WC34 Stagea. Early R34 Skylines use the non NEO RB, later models use the NEO version.

Should have just bought an S-Chassis for cheap, plenty of manuals going around. Instead you went the route that 99% of

the people in this forum will be against. This will have been a hit in the wasteland.

So, are you trying to say i can swap motors between cars that use the same chassis?

It came in some later R32 GTS models. As he said in his post.

Everyone here is giving great advice, grab an RB25DE about 1k?? Would just need it put in and that's all.

One thing you'll probably get pulled up on is having a turbo badged and registered car, cops will love you for that even though it doesn't have a turbo.

tl;dr: Yes you can put in rb25de and goodluck

r32's came with the motors rb20det, rb26dett, rb20de and the rb25de. rb25de's are cheaps as chips, picked up a replacement motor for my blown r33 rb25de for $400, worked perfect ever since, guy even claimed it only had 67000 on it but i dont live in lala land and know that isnt true.

so if your smart and car work on cars yourself you can have a mad running r32 non tubro for around $500, which is wayyy cheaper than trying to fix up your unturboed rb25det-t.

Wowwww I thought you were trolling. Don't know how many more people you need to tell you that R32's DID come in RB25DE, but heres another one!

Seriously though RB25DE in the little 32 would go well!

Edit: Also I don't think you ever register your car as a Turbo... It definitely doesn't come up with Turbo or N/A in police computers when they rego check it. Unless the copper can read long engine numbers that pray-tell to the aspiration.

Which they won't look at unless they've popped your bonnet, in which case they'll definitely be getting you with your current modified manifolds etc.

and this is why i love the NA section.

the easiest and cheapest option is to simple buy a rb20DE to put in it. the best option is to put the rb25DE into it, and the worst, and most likely the most expensive option is to try and get your current engine to run properly.

actually the best option would be to sell it and buy something else. a SSS pulsar would be a better option. will be faster and cheaper on fuel, rego, insurance, etc. or even just a commodore or falcon, both of which will be faster, cheaper, etc.

I was under the impression that the only time you need an engineering cert is when you upgrade the motor and the difference between the fuel displacement (between the original and the new engine) is greater than 0.2L

gearbox is gonna need changing too, so thats another $500 i guess...plus labour costs probably $600-$800...

it all adds up, i dont have that type of money now anyway it needs to get painted.

the gts25 r32 came with 25de, the rb20 with the turbo removed should've run not too bad, slow, but not running too terribly enough to bother someone that would do a -T, have you done the usual checks? put a turbo back on? even a stock 20 turbo

    • I think the concept is highlighting the various scenarios where thicker oil helps, and thicker oil potentially doesn't help and only generates heat and costs power, in turn for safety which isn't actually any safer (unless you're going real hot). If anything this does highlight why throwing Castrol 10w-60 for your track days is always a solid, safe bet. 
    • Jason should have shown a real viscosity vs temp chart. All the grades have very little viscosity difference at full operating temperature.

    • Yep, if you are applying filler it sounds like there is something wrong with the body lol. Safe to assume there is going to be a lot of sanding going on if your still applying fillers.  Picture a perfect bare metal panel, smooth as glass. You lay down your primer, it's perfect. (why are you going to sand it?) You lay down the colour and clear, it's perfect. No sanding at all took place and you've got a perfectly finished panel.  You won't be chasing your tail, sounds like you were prepping to start laying filler. If your happy with the body after the sanding, there is some bare metal exposed and some areas with primer, no issues at all, start laying the filler. You are safe to lay filler on bare metal or primer (of course check your technical data sheet as usual for what your filler is happy to adhere to).  This isn't a 100% correct statement. There is primer that is happy to adhere to smooth bare metal. There are fillers that are happy to adhere to smooth bare metal. Just make sure you're using the right materials for the job.  Typically if you are using filler, you would go primer, colour and clear. I've never seen any instances before where someone has laid colour over body filler (maybe this happens, but I haven't seen it before). So your plan sounds pretty normal to me. 
    • I don't think there's any way someone is push starting this car.. I honestly can barely move it, and moving it and steering it is just flat out not possible. I'm sure it is, but needs a bigger man than me. I have a refurbished starter now. The starter man was quite clear and consise showing me how nothing inside a starter really should contribute to slow cranking, and turned out that for the most part... my starter was entirely fine. Still, some of the wear items were replaced and luckily it didn't show any signs of getting too hot, being unfit for use, etc. Which is 'good'. I also noticed the starter definitely sounded different, which is a bit odd considering nothing should have really changed there.... Removed and refit, and we'll pretend one of the manifold bolts didn't fully tighten up and is only "pretty" tight. GM only wants 18ft/lb anyway. I also found a way to properly get my analog wideband reading very slightly leaner than the serial wideband. There's Greg related reasons for this. The serial output is the absolute source of truth, but it is a total asshole to actually stay connected and needs a laptop. The analog input does not, and works with standalone datalogging. Previously the analog input read slightly richer, but if I am aiming at 12.7 I do not want one of the widebands to be saying 12.7 when the source of truth is 13.0. Now the source of truth will be 12.65 and the Analog Wideband will read 12.7. So when I tune to 12.7 it'll be ever so slightly safer. While messing with all of this and idling extensively I can confirm my car seems to restart better while hot now. I did add an old Skyline battery cable between the head and the body though, though now I really realise I should have chosen the frame. Maybe that's a future job. The internet would have you believe that this is caused by bad grounds. In finding out where my grounds actually were I found out the engine bay battery post actually goes to the engine, as well as a seperate one (from the post) to the body of the car. So now there's a third one making the Grounding Triangle which is now a thing. I also from extensive idling have this graph. I have not actually put the formula into HPTuners. I will have to re-engage brain and/or re-engage the people who wanted more data to magically do it for me. Tune should be good for the 30th!
