Transgo Shift Kit / Braided Brake Lines

I have noticed a couple of threads that have popped up recently discussing the transgo shift kit

Given that I have just got back into doing track days after a break for the last year and a half I am seriously considering getting one of these as everyone raves about how much of an improvement they make when it comes to shift times particularly when using triptronic.

I'm pretty sure I can shave a bit more off my lap times if the auto box changed faster. I have started to play with the triptronic around a couple of corners/hairpin where the box cant make its mind up if it wants to be in 2^nd or 3^rd gear but the lag in the changes makes this kind of futile

I'm on the Gold Coast and would be willing to drive to Brisbane to get this done

I've noticed a couple members who do installs but it seems they are based in Melb/Syd

Any advice or anyone know where I can go to get one supplied and fitted in QLD?

Also on a side note has anyone upgraded their brake lines who has actually done track days before and after getting them fitted?

I've decided for the moment that I'm going to stick it out with the poverty spec non brembos as the QFM A1RM pads seem to be working well enough for a street/track pad. I have however noticed that my brake pedal gets pretty spongy once the brakes heat up at the track

Its probably been 2 years since I had the fluid changed “dot 5.1” so a full flush of the system +new fluid should help somewhat

I think he does it for $250 but you would have to PM him. That price would be with you supplying all the Nissan Matic J or Nulon synthetic trans fluids.

For anyone in Melbourne, I can install it for the same price and supply the kit from Jetwreck.

I ran my stock auto brakes here out on the track at Mallala ONCE, and NEVER AGAIN - I went out and bought some Brembos and 2 piece floating rotors. After 2 half decent laps my pedal went to the floor and was seriously scary. Admittedly that was with stock pads and fluids, but dayum it was scary!

I uprgraded my brake lines to Goodyear braided and lines and seriously didn't notice any difference. But for the price it is VERY cheap insurance, so would still recommend.

I went for a spin in Sam's V35 with the transgo kit, and HIGHLY recommend it. Changes were SIGNIFICANTLY faster, and made the car feel completely different! It is next on my mods list.

That is not a bad deal - I have seen them advertised for over $3k.

I got VERY lucky - I bought them off USA Ebay, and shipped the via a drop-shipping company (www.comgateway.com) ..... mine were just over $2k delivered including near new Project MU pads and 2 piece Stoptech floating rotors. I think I got buy of the century though.

I was looking into getting a pair of brembos too, but may as well get the brand new akebonos from czp instead of used brembos, heard quite a lot of good things about them too

I had SS brake lines on my old Maxima which I used to track now and then. Zero difference between them and the OEM rubber lines. The theory is sound and there would definitely be some swelling taking a little bit of the pressure away from the calipers but the pressure difference was (measurably) minute.

Instead, what you're experiencing is the fluid getting hygroscopic at the higher temperatures so you need to use something better. A full flush and replacement of the fluid is a step in the right direction but you need to find one that will operate at temperatures typical of track racing if you want to keep that sponge pedal away.

Only if they not ADR approved. You can get ADR ones. It's still rubber under the braided SS.

There has been quite a few cases of the braided line popping/ leaking. I wouldn't bother.

Only if the tubing itself is Teflon. Supposedly, given Teflon's greater rigidity, it is more prone to fracturing and leaking than rubber so it's not really well suited to components which are in constant motion across the X and Y axes, as is the case with your wheels given the suspension moves them up and down while the steering moves them left and right.

It was never a problem on the Maxima but it was of zero benefit too.

Thanks for your input guys, I'll pass on the braided lines and just get the fluid flushed. Its been close to 2 years since I had it flushed/changed using Dot 5.1 so I'm sure its overdue for a flush/change

Anyone have any recommendations for getting the transgo kit installed in Brisbane/Gold Coast?

If not a couple of mates have had their auto commowhore gearboxes rebuilt by a local shop on the Gold Coast and have said nothing but good things so I might end up giving them a call to see if they have experience/how much they want to install the kit

I messaged Jetwreck but haven't got any reply yet about the current going rate on buying a kit. I'm sure he has read the message might just take a few days to get around to me. Otherwise if its just a straight purchase of Ebay from the US I can always just go and do that myself.

That's a good price (Ebay), but check out Summit Racing (http://www.summitracing.com/search/?keyword=transgo%20RE5R05A&dds=1) as most guys who didn't buy their kit from Jetwreck got it there. It was fast shipping too.

Craig will respond soon I'm sure. IMO it's a better deal to send the valve body to him (dead easy job removing & refitting) as it will be done right. Even so called experts can get these things wrong, or they take a long time so cost more, unless they've one recently. I'd get a FIRM quote before going ahead.

The upside of getting a local to do the work is it will be quicker (it's the return shipping that costs a few days) & less messy, but if you can have the car off the road for a short time then save some cash & send it to Jetwreck.
