Street to Track

I have read through the "-5, vs -7, -9" thread, but they mostly compare the general specs of -7/-9 vs the -5.

In the end, all i got from it was that the -5's are laggy on stock displacement motor, and the -7's-9's are better for a street car on stock displacement.

Wasn't much info with the -9's vs the -7's though...-7's have a slightly smaller compressor wheel, not sure if the -7's are still capable of 300-350rwkw though, or what kind of power they are capable of vs the -9's.

EDIT: Re read - Seems to be

-7's = 300rwkw

-9's = 330rwkw

EDIT: Believe they are rated at the same horse power, maybe the -7's are a little less, but should be more responsive due to the slightly smaller compressor wheel. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tbroom/Turbos.htm

Now even more confused, because on kudo's webpage, both -9's and -7's are rated at 620hp...

So who is right? :\

Quick answer would be good, ive tried searching through the forums and using google, but i take it my search skills are not quite up to par.

Havn't called GCG, I called up alot of the garret distributor's here in VIC, none had stock of the 9's. Apparently they are not as common as -7's...

Plus i made a bit of a mistake with Street to Track, I was informed today that the -9's were not available but the -7's were available for immediate shipment, so stupid me said to him to ship out the -7's impulsively after hearing that the -9's were not available. So now i think i will be getting some -7's in the mail...

Hopefully i can return them at get my $$$ back till the -9's come in stock.... I hope, otherwise i feel I am stuck with a inferior set of turbo's!

From the reading i have done, why get 7's when 9's are better?

So whats the big difference between them, while people recommend the -9's over the -7's. I don't think i have seen any facts/figures as to why they do.

Will either make 350?

I make 350 with -9s on 98, built engine though

I need to get my $$$ back. That is even assuming I can get them back...I mean I should be able too, I was thinking i could just send back the -7's and everything should be hunky dory.

Bit of a update, No refund avialable, but all good working it through with street to track, few miss communication's on my behalf.

I believe the correct turbo's i want are the Garrett GT2859R 780371 -1 or the GT2859R 707160 -9.

After reading through this mammoth thread http://www.skylinesa...lazy-gt2860-9s/

It looks like i need a decent set of actuators, are the ones included with the -1's alright?

I think i will be going a EBC as well, just to keep things stable. Looking at the Greddy Profspec 2.

Unless anybody knows of other Garrett turbo's that are superoir to the -9's? From the research i have done the -9's are better then the -7's in everyway (maybe not the exact same response, but 100rpm diff for more power seems like a good trade off)

EDIT: Re the recommended 1000 ID injectors, A buddy was telling me going to big of a injector can be a bad thing? It may give me a more rich tune, resulting in less power? Should i be going injectors that are smaller?

It doesn't look like there is much difference in price between smaller injectors of larger ones, It would make more sense to just purchase the bigger ones and be done with them.

EDIT: Re the fuel pump Bosch 044 intank install, Read the DIY, seems like a bit too much mucking around for me when you can get a pump that will go straight in? Walbro seems alright? http://www.kudosmotorsports.com/catalog/walbro-fuel-pump-kit-intank-walbro-gss341-255lph-nissan-180sx-rps13-silvia-ps13-skyline-r32-stagea-wgnc34-p-1079.html

The nismo is $594.....eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep! Man just can't catch a break $$$ wise with this car!

More of a update;

Tuner reckens stick with the -7's i have gotten...says there is SHIT all difference between the -9's and -7's in terms of overall power.

Says all the stock components are good for about 310rwkw, and running 20psi is bad for the stock internals, (well not bad but just shorterns the life quite a bit).

Reckens the biggest limiting factor would be having a poor quality cat.

    • I used the radium thing, makes the whole parallel assembly a lot more compact compared to any other way of doing it
    • Racetronix also sells those ethanol content sensor bypass blocks. Adapter, Flex-Fuel E85 Sensor High-Flow Bypass, In-line No Sensor (ADF-FLEX-NS): Adapters - Flex Fuel | Racetronix Ethanol content sensor are originally designed to be on the feed line. These bypass blocks are meant to be ran in the feed line and not return. The continental ethanol content sensors have a 3/8" ID and not 5/16". This is why they are ran on the return line directly in conjunction with a low threshold sampling value VS in the feed with one of these blocks.    Haha we think alike, I used both original feed/return for 8AN feed, and one of the Hicas lines as a 6AN return. I also capped off and left the other Hicas line as a spare.
    • Interesting, I haven't read about the issue with oil getting into the speedo in the cluster before. I'll have to take more notice with mine. The speedo on my R32's when I've run factory diff and tyre size have never been accurate as far as I can remember. The non Type-M GTS-t did come with 15" 5 stud wheels and smaller brakes, but that's less than 5% of them.
    • Good to hear the condenser you picked up off my brother worked all good. Do you think there could be an issue with your AC compressor itself or the clutch on it then? I don't know a lot about them so I can't really help but keen to hear what it ends up being. Keep the build thread going man, it's nice to look back on over time.
    • This is a story of my life things, I learned eventually (thanks to someone calling me out) that my enthusiasm for discussing and sharing ideas that it came across as arrogance and I'm like... WTF?!    One thing I'm pretty sure I justifiably pride myself on is knowing that everyone will have things they can teach you, and you're always going to find out that something you think you know turns out wrong - you just don't know what it is until you get there.   Just the bursting enthusiasm that comes with ADHD when you hit something that gives you dopamine dumps can come across like you think everyone else is wrong or don't matter. But yeah, I'm a software engineer by trade and also do tuning in weekends and 100% have long had a reputation for  quickly making connections when resolving problems or forming solutions that I've sometimes had to take people form a long walk from start to end to explain how I ended up where I did when it's seemed "too simple" when I've stated my initial case, and had the "WTF" type reaction when they've realised how much was actually considered haha.   My reward is that I get all the curly problems thrown at me.
