Hey Guys,

Unofficial Cruise #3

This is my first attempt and we will get better as we go

Its that time again for our Newcastle crew to get out and do some cruising on the 21st October. This will be an early morning cruise due to the traffic that generally builds on Old Pac. I suggest you grab a bite to eat before you go due to the time in the morning, IF you guys wanna meet earlier and stop on the way down please let me know and ill make adjustments but at this stage we would like to be nice and early. The cruise is basically a run from Newcastle down to Gosford/Kariong so we can meet out Central Coast SAU crew and have a quick meet up, we will then proceed down Old Pacific Highway (Old Pac) and then down the Galston Gorge.

There are 2 options planned for the lower end of the cruise and this is to accomodate the cars that will be too low for a Ferry crossing. Chookie and Myself did the run and it is a nice chilled out drive, this will be a cruise and not a race, any misbehavior on the road that may cause a bad name for SAU will not be tolerated and you will be reported. We have had a good start to our Northern cruises, lets not ruin it now!

Cruise Details -

When - 21st October - 7am start

7.00am meet up at Mattara Hotel Charlestown. Please bring a full tank of fuel, there is multiple service stations within 1km from the meet point including E85 fuel.

7.15am Departure from the Mattara Hotel carpark will take us down through the coast and onto the Freeway where we will meet up with the Central Coast guys

The meet point will be the carpark across from the Central Coast BMW dealership (Kangoo Rd i believe), there is plenty of room to meet up at this location. Arrival should be around 8.25am depending on traffic. We may take this opportunity to grab a few pics and meet each other as there will be some new faces on this cruise and we want it to be a friendly and welcoming meet

Departure time from the carpark will depend on the photo's but it will be NO later than 9am as we will want to get on the Old Pac nice and early. We will enter the Old Pacific Highway at the top and follow it all the way down towards Hornsby, We are planning to stop and get some pics of the cars on the waterfront, the best we could find was these spots for now, we are open to suggestions on the day but at this stage the plan will be here -

Heaps of room to line the cars for an angle shot -

Just over the bridge to the left there is also a spot looking back at the bridge and also over the Marina etc

Once the photos are done we will cruise down through to Hornsby on the Old Pacific Highway, at this stage we will have NO time constraints so it will be very casual.

Once again there is 2 routes we have on option to us based on the cars that attend.

Lowered car option - If we have too many lowered cars the plan will be down through Galston Gorge and across the other side and then we will have a quick stop at Galston and then head back through the Gorge and return up Old Pac.

Normal cruise option - We plan to turn down Berowra waters and head across the Ferry and then proceed up through Galston Gorge and back onto Old Pac.

The Gorge

The Ferry

As you can see the ramp IS steep and we will make the call on the day as to which route to take.

Once we are back on Old Pac we will be returning to the famous Pie In The Sky for a bite to eat, if you dont like these pies then there is something wrong with you :P They are amazing!!

Once we are full and had a good catch up it will be time to make the trip home, we will stop and see off the Central Coast guys at the original location and then proceed back towards Newcastle.

We will be inviting our friends from 3LACK UNDERGROUND and possibly some others, this cruise is NOT restricted to skylines but please no bombs or stock dailys as we would like some nice shots to show the Newcastle/Central Coast car enthousioust scene is in full swing! We have a good thing going, lets KEEP it going. We are all here to enjoy ourselves!

Guys please be aware -

We will be the most courteous users on the road, and we will not be doing ANYTHING to cause any disrepute for the club.

This will be another fun day, with the only cost a bit of fuel, and what ever you decide to eat and drink.

On this cruise we will ALL be sticking to the speed limit.

There will be

NO DRIFTING.

NO BURNOUTS

NOTHING ILLEGAL!

For these activities we will discuss some events located up here possibly with the MG car club and others at a later date.

Looking forward to seeing you guys there!

Any chance of making it October 28th, the day after I get my full licence.

=\

Nope! Date is set on this one....

Please note, IF we do take the Ferry option our fearless Trolley Surfer has offered to bring some usefull tools to assist with Ferry loading, we have spoken to the Ferry crew and they ARE willing to help us as long as the tide is right for loading -

These will also be used if anyone steps out of line

 just kidding!

Goodjob matt,

Very thorough! Keen to see the numbers we get from the coast boys!

Thanks Mate, we will be selective as to where we advertise but i anticipate a trouble free relaxing day :D

i'll be there in spirit :-)

Ant,looking at the ferry offload, i suggest you take some allen keys for your diffuser

Shame about the timing mate, would have been good to at least had one with ya! Anyway, there IS an alternative so the low cars etc will not have to go across it....... We will see how it goes on the day!

Ill get my m8 in his S15 to come, he has just had a top mount put in so im sure he would love the chance to show it off lol.

Yep that makes the Tally 6 x R34 and 2 x S15 so far :) Keep them coming guys!!

Wow the 34 gang. After the reception and commenta fater the last meet no way. Have fun

Ahhh was that the V series? Can understand that mate! Don't want anyone feeling left out and no smartass comments.... I think I was guilty of one.... Anyway, if you do come it will be chilled and no dramas

I will hopefully be able to make this cruise now im finally back on the road after a few months.

Good stuff... Your not alone, few of us have been off the road for a while

    • @joshuaho96 Hmm considering the drama you've seen/experienced, have you looked into getting a built complete long motor shipped from Australia?  Considering the AUD is basically monopoly money when compared to the USD, at a glance this seems like a good option?
    • Bloody Skylines, they put you through the bloody wringer! Stick at it! Stunning drag strip BTW! Where is it? Can see part of the name on the slip and probably should just Google it!
    • I mean the other day I had to walk someone through diagnosing why their timing belt was walking off the cam gears. At least one of the issues was a bent tensioner stud. Local mechanics have found runout on the CAS mechanism causing weird failures. I'm also no saint here I've documented some of the things I've had to learn the hard way. Something I discovered recently is that my CA emissions catalytic converters weren't even welded correctly to align the downpipe to the main cat and they tossed the support bracket that goes from the transfer case to the downpipe to support everything there. I spend a lot of time chasing down these decidedly unsexy problems and the net effect is it feels like I never actually get to the original objective (flex fuel, VCAM, oil control, cooling, etc).
    • At times with how you make everything sound, all I imagine Americans doing when they see a gtr is standing there looking at it and bashing it with a gun like how a caveman would with a club and hoping it fixes itself
    • I think this is just a product of how the US market works for this stuff. Shops are expensive and there's no real way of knowing what kind of results you're going to get, people don't really have the institutional knowledge. I have heard too much at this point to really put faith in anybody "full service" except maybe DSport and they aren't really a full service kind of shop. If you go to the right place I have no doubt they'll get it right for you. Some locals have set it up right but the cost really is nuts and even now they're still fighting issues. And you know I'm a crazy person who thinks things like twin scroll, relatively short low-mount cast headers, PCV recirc to intake, recirculating BOV, right-sized for ~400 whp, MAF load, validating all of that to a standard comparable to OEM test programs, etc are relevant. For what it's worth, multiple local owners at this point have been stuck in a perpetual cycle of blowing a motor -> getting someone to rebuild it -> some missed detail causes the bearings to wipe and spin just outside of break-in mileage or drop valves or some other catastrophe -> cycle repeats. I usually only find out about this because I'm perpetually helping random friends with diagnosing car troubles, Skyline or otherwise. The single turbo stuff if I'm honest is mostly secondary, it just doesn't seem to achieve the numbers in the ~2000-3000 rpm region that I would expect given the results I've seen here or in Motive's videos. I don't really know what we're missing here in the US to be causing this. Lots of people like to emphasize the necessity of finishing the project first and foremost, but I'm not made of money and I can't afford to be trashing a 15k+ USD engine build with any regularity. Or spending my relatively limited garage time these days unable to triangulate problems because too much was changed all at once. Also, even if it isn't a catastrophic failure I would consider spending the cost of single turbo conversion with nothing to show for it to be pretty bad.
