I've had this happen too but Rh indicator occasionally was on dull.

Remove covers around steering column. Undo 2 plugs to indicator stalk. If it stops then it should be a faulty switch. If not its a wiring fault.

Undo 2 screws holding stalk to coloumn. There is a plastic cover that covers everything. Just have to pry it off while lifting the clips at the same time. Inside is 3 contactors for indicators and hi-beam. Mine were heavily greased but had heaps of dust n crap caught in the grease that was causing it to contact poorly and come on by itself. Clean it up and before putting it back together double check the indicator auto-off pin is still on the right spot. Pop cover back on and test it

Similarly, I had an issue with my 94 Bluebird with the indicators coming on by themselves or not stopping properly.

After a few weeks, a puff of smelly electrical smoke came out of the switch area, so I decided to check it out.

Pulled all of the above apart (very similar) and found a small bit of plastic had melted away between 2 contacts.

I looped a fine cable tie in between and superglued it in place, trimmed off the ends and never had the issue again.

replace the stalk, had mine do that, in the end it shorted out on both sides a lot of blue electrical smoke and well yeah ran late for tafe that day.

once the stalk was replaced had no troubles since.

i had the ticking noise from the indicator stalk constantly going in my vt commodore. the indicators would only work when the stalk was moved, but the clicking would come and go, such as if i hit a bump it would go crazy. new stalk fixed it
