KingManu23
Hi Guys What do you guys recommend for a A/T 2003 V35 coupe. An ECU or a Transgo A/T Shift Performance Kit? I have been told the ECU will cost about $800-$900 fitted and the Transgo Shift Kit will cost $300 (not including labour cost). So performance wise is there a very noticable difference? Nightcrawler
An ECU really won't do much unless you have serious mods that benefit from 'tuning' the ECU. FYI the shift kit will cost $500+ to fit (incl. service and oil) by a shop - I hope you have included that in your equation. Jetwreck
Uprev gives you control over the gearbox to some extent.... But if you are to supercharge or turbo charge at a later stage you will still need a shift kit done. $500 not including oil is a good price IMO.....just make sure you go to a workshop that has done a couple and knows what there doing....I've seen a heard a couple of horror stories of can do workshops that can't do! And don't let them use dextron for the oil...it will stuff the gearbox. GED59
definately get the shift kit had my installed a few months back $770 including oil a bit of a rip off but thats Perth. The results are outstanding. Just do it!! Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/410691-ecu-vs-transgo-shift-kit/#findComment-6561516 Share on other sites
PN-Mad
Uprev gives you control over the gearbox to some extent.... Yes it does. So to some extent you could actually replicate what the transgo shift kit is doing Physically, but tuning the ECU to do it electronically. I have done it to my car, however I also have the transgo shift kit. So I am unsure how good you could actually replicate the results of the shift kit in tuning the line pressures the ecu tells the gearbox ecu to run. However you also get the benifit of the tune. I don't know what the rwkw difference will be once you tune on a stock car, but you will get some benifit as well as losing the speed limiter, and setting the rev limiter to your desired limit. You may also chose to run upto 5 different ECU maps. What ecu have you been directed too? If its a piggyback, then run far far away. Chances are the person who is giving you advice has NFI about these cars. Uprev tuner is 700USD. Dyno tuning is on top of that- and I would charge more than 100-200 to do the job. scotty nm35
Are those prices including the shift kit? Otherwise I need to put my prices up. lol. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/410691-ecu-vs-transgo-shift-kit/#findComment-6561559 Share on other sites
Nightcrawler
^^^ Nope that price is not including the shift kit .... but remember a business workshop has significant thousands of dollars per week, every week, to pay for. Plus warranty if they stuff something up. In Adelaide we pay around $120 per hour for labour alone. 180 wanabe
What oil are people using when having the kit fitted? I gave the local gearbox shop close to my work which a couple mates who have had commo boxes rebuilt recommend a call. They can supply the shift kit for $460 as opposed to the $300 ish via ebay etc The guy I spoke to said he had rebuilt a couple of boxes out of pathfinders which are the same RE5R05A box the 350z/V35 have. When I asked what oil he used he replied that he uses a synthetic oil he gets in bulk from Singapore which would cost me $7.5 per L and has had no issues with the RE5R05A boxes he has used it on..... This is a shop which has been around for 10+ years so id hope he is right Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/410691-ecu-vs-transgo-shift-kit/#findComment-6562095 Share on other sites
PN-Mad
Nissan genuine. It's a good thing. Others have used the nylon fully synth with success. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/410691-ecu-vs-transgo-shift-kit/#findComment-6562153 Share on other sites
scotty nm35
Mine was running generic Dextron III, although it has extra clutches installed in the baskets. I don't recommend it for a stock RE5. I use the Nulon synthetic usually as it's proven and easy to find.
