Sounds like you bought an SR20 turbo?

Does it have a 5 bolt dump pipe or 6 bolt dump pipe?

Also what you referred to as the compressor inlet is actually the compressor outlet. It has 3 bolts and that's where the air comes out. The part where you can see the compressor blades is the inlet

My mate just replaced his blown rb20 and got another one, came with all the wiring, mani's and a turbo that looks just like yours mate so sorry but I'd say its a rb20 turbo :-(

I'm sure i will be corrected if its not tho :-)

It appears to be an RB20s turbocharger , the compressor wheel and housing is smaller than an RB25s ones and the turbine housing will be slightly smaller internally. The real give away is the "Nissan" etc cast into the 25s comp housing . Its in bolder lettering and also 25 turbochargers have an anti reversion groove machined into the compressor housings inlet boss .

The last thing as you found is that the adapter that bolts to the comp housings outlet is larger on the common RB25/VG30 comp housing casting . The threaded holes are also on a slightly larger pitch circle diameter than the RB20 type compressor housing .

You need to change it for an RB25 one .

For some reason I thought some VG30 turbos came with "16V 12" on the comp cover, could be wrong - long time since I worried about these units. Compare the turbine housings on the R33 turbo and the 16V turbo...

Single Z32 ceramic BB turbos used the same compressor housing as most RB25 ones though they were profile machined for a slightly smaller compressor wheel . They won't go over a std 25 compressor and I know because I have both and tried it . The housings side by side are dimensionally the same .

    • I found the same with Subaru’s.  I own and love the SG9 Forester, after that model 2008+, Subaru threw the ugly stick at all their line up and somehow managed to make them look worse with every succeeding year.  lol
    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
