hi im new here. i'll be frank and say that i dont know much about insurance, especially moving from 1 insurer to another. well anyway i am in the market for a r33 gtst but the problem as pretty much every1 here has faced is insurance, i drive a corolla and the catch is im under 25 and the corolla has comprehensive insurance, under mum's name and i am a listed driver. she is rating 1, what im wondering is if i go to just car (pretty much the only guys that will insure imports) will i be rating 1 or something lower?

You will be a rating 6 and judged as not ever having insurance.

It's stupid, I was in the same situation, I even got a my insurer (GIO) to provide a written statement that I was rating 2, driving 4 years, no claims, but it was not accepted due to the technicality that I was not "the policy holder".

However, if you've had insurance in your own name (even third party) then most companies will give you some kind of NCB - which I think is a bit stupid... people with 3rd party don't normally claim so if they've had an accident the insurer doesn't even know, but if you have full comp you would normally claim.

These days insurers usually go under the lowest rated risk on the policy - ie you. Especially for imports where usually only listed drivers are covered. So I don't think you'll be able to save much if any.
