Questions About Induction Kit On R33 Gt-R

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

Have recently bought this (http://www.rhdjapan.com/apex-i-super-suction-kit-80mm-maf-rb26dett-skyline-gt-r-60776) Apexi Kit to put on my '96 GT-R but I didn't order MAF's.

Can I just put on standard Z32 MAF's (part number is 22680-30P00 A36000N62) and if I do, do I need to change anything to do with my ECU, fuel mapping etc. because I've changed from AF's to MAF'S?

Also, my mechanic says that even if these weren't an issue, the piping + pods still won't fit in, would this be due to the turbo box or have the company sent me the wrong piping?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Cheers

Sau wUt?!

Af's to Mafs?

Are you going from standard AFM's to z32 AFM's?

What ecu do you have, you know that the standard air box can flow 400kw.

You know that without enough information we cant help you. I dont know about you but Im not a mind reader. If I was id be a poker king

If u have a stock ecu u can still use the kit, however u will need silicone reducers to be able to use ur standard afm's (aka mafs) as the kit is designed for z32's.

Oh and u cant use ur standard airbox with this kit

You can fit the metal pipe to the AFM's via a reducer as Jez said above but as for bolting the actual AFM to the filter it wont fit as the above filter has been pre drilled for the holes to line up with the 80mm Z32 AFM as opposed to the 65 standard/nismo one.

Get your self some Z32 AFM's and take the car for a retune :)

Thanks for the help guys. My mechanic said we could put reducers in but yea the fact that the stock MAF's wouldn't fit was confusing thanks to the holes and the place I bought the kit didn't say anything about replacing sensors or airboxes or ecu. Wouldn't reducers defeat the purpose of running a 3inch pipe instead of 2.5? Pretty sure I'm gonna go a power fc with z32s, new airbox and a retune.

JEZ - What do I need to change with the airbox for the kit to fit. Parts/Part numbers would be much appreciated? Do you know any tuners in FNQ that are handy with a GT-R, Dyno and Power FC? They seem few and far between. The AF's were stuffed by the first "good" mechanic that serviced the car and have had trouble finding a good mechanic since. I'm seriously considering driving down the coast just to get someone who really knows what they are doing..

Hakouden - the ECU is stock, everything in it is stock except for the exhaust. I don't mind the current capabilities of the car it's just getting stuff to fit and work how it was made to. The filters I bought it with were starting to perish and thought I'd help free up the breathing, thats why I'm on here asking. It's the first real mod to the car I've done and can be hard to get a straight answer from anyone except here.

Thanks again for the help

Where is FNQ?

Im honestly not sure u will be able to use the stock airbox unless both intakes were made custom from the front of the turbo's.

run the pods but make a pod cover to enclose them in.

Heres a R34 GTR i installed te piping kit to a week ago. It went on to make 325kw with -5 turbo's

Yea, I realise now I can't use the stock airbox I just can't find anywhere that sells aftermarkets for 33 gtr's. Just Jap has them for 32 gtrs and 33 gtst's but nothing said for mine. FNQ is far north queensland. Cairns, Townsville etc. I live in Melbourne at the moment but the car is back home.

I think for now I'll run reducers from the MAFS to the piping until the ECU and z32's arrive but I need the airbox too. Is this the sort of thing i'd need from the MAF's to the piping - http://justjap.com/store/product.php?productid=19445&cat=293&page=3 ? That way I can put the filters, airbox and piping in and when the z32's and ECU arrive I can just change the afms over and retune?

Thanks

mate with that kit please completely forget the word airbox, you cant use the standard box, the only "aftermarket box" is an arc item, but then again you still need to use the standard intake pipes for that kit

YOU NEED POD FILTERS like the above r34, then make a cover for them

also you should do alot more research and find out exactly what you need before ordering parts next time

also there is no need for a company to state that you need a new ecu or tune, when ever parts are changed that affect the performance of a car it is common sense that it should be tuned accordingly to suit the new modifications

Thanks Chris. That's the answer I've been after. I've got the pod filters already. Like I said mate they're the first real mods I've done to the car and you've gotta start somewhere.

Thanks for help guys will chuck some pictures up when it's done.
