Brendonams
Hello, I've brought this up before with no solution, just wanted to try again. I've got a 2.5" catback exhaust with 2 resonators. There is a tiny muffler on the end of the exhaust, my problem is that it still drones. Is it even possible to get a RB25de to have a clear sound without drone at all? What are some people running on their Catback systems?
WMDC35
my opinion is to keep the de's quiet, they don't really gain any power and usually sound horrific
Brendonams
Please explain more, I would like to get my car to a "nice" sounding level and not droning and all over the place with conservation of power.
AngryRB
its the tiny muffler thats the issue, get a semi straight thru one, my system has a hotdog resonator and a big oval muffler, the muffler is what muffles the drone the most, get a muffler thats semi striaight thru, so it curves inside, that will forces the gases to be muffled but not restricted , then your drone will come down .. you need a either a large oval muffler or resonator .. police come straight after noisey cars.. Brendonams
I've had a big Magnaflow oval muffler on it and it droned twice as hard, I've already got 2 resonators on the exhaust
AngryRB
are they hotdog resonators? thats odd because i have a 4L falcon with nothing but a large muffler on the back, and hardly any drone, sounds meaty actually. lol Edited October 12, 2012 by SliverS2
WMDC35
stock exhaust with decat is all i'd do, also the multivalve gives a brutal twang haha(which turbo muffles), thats why even sohc rb sounds better than dohc with exhaust, the 4l falcon is prob not a multivalve model? Brendonams
It has two of these http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1440&bih=799&tbm=isch&tbnid=xUdcM8zlMfhlaM:&imgrefurl=http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r170-slk-class/1517383-those-magnaflow-exhausts.html&docid=7b1eTBh68QhbgM&imgurl=http://www.benzworld.org/forums/attachments/r170-slk-class/305642d1272677582-those-magnaflow-exhausts-2.5inch-resonator.jpg&w=411&h=294&ei=5qB3UNvOCI6YiAfw5oHwAw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=683&vpy=418&dur=1980&hovh=190&hovw=266&tx=143&ty=64&sig=111702860310702130772&page=1&tbnh=127&tbnw=152&start=0&ndsp=36&ved=1t:429,r:30,s:0,i:233 Big link :s. AngryRB
doesnt look like much of a resonator, looks no better than a straight piece of pipe, if it were me id have the big fat muffler on the back and an oval resonator, or id start there WMDC5 is probably right, theres alot of honda's that sound like that, a 2inch pipe size was probably better for the low power output too. Captain Natro
It will drone unless it's dead quite, and if it's dead quite you may as well of used a stock system as the power gains are negligible.
Brendonams
Yeah that's my thoughts are too, I was just wondering if anyone else had any methods.
AngryRB
hard to believe a good resonator and muffler wouldnt sound good without the drone, but i dont have an na, i know when i had a hotdog resonator with a cannon my car was extremely droning, i mean you got a headache after 5minutes
R31 POWER
Maybe get everything removed and replace them with 2 off-set mufflers? I don't see hotdog/ straight through mufflers doing you any good. Or turbo it LOL.
HR32GTS 4DOOR
IMO whenever I have had just resonators that makes it drone. On my old motor na rb20 I had two hotdog style resonators sounded really nice under load but cruising it would be almost as loud and drone like crazy. Then I had the rear one replaced with an oval one and got rid of the drone almost completely, but made it sound not as good under load. Its a compromise really. Captain Natro
Mine drones on the highway but sounds nice under load (for an NA)
lindz34
get rid of the hot dog resi's & chuck in a proper oval mid muffler - problem solved.
mad082
Maybe make sure the resonators were installed the right way. If they were installed the wrong way round they won't do much
