R33 Gtr - Turbo's Out, Now What Should I Replace? Pics Attached!

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Doing a turbo swap myself, and now that my stocky turbo's are out of the engine bay and on the bench, and the tuner being booked out for a few weeks. Now is a good time to start replacing things that are not easily accessible, ie dumps!

So what should i be replacing, and by replacing can i get some part numbers or brands i should be looking for?

Currently replacing my stock turbo's with Garrett -7's, Got a Ganador Exhaust with HKS Pods. Otherwise everything else is stock.

Should i replace dumps, exhaust manifolds, intercooler, piping? If so what ones and where?

some pics to keep things interesting ;)

No need to change intercooler, dump pipe, exhaust manifold etc. Stock items are more than good enough.

Just replace things like exhaust studs, washer, nuts etc, do 100k service while you're at it. And replacing intercooler clamps with new ones is good idea also.

And you're good to go.

Worth replacing O2 sensors?

100k service has already been done by previous owner.

Looking to chase 300rwkw+ with the -7's, so would like to do all supporting mods now as its easier.

Dumps aren't needed until 380rwkw, that is what I'm told.

pair of -7s won't make more than 330rwkw (condition of motor/boost dependent), so keep the dumps.

What ECU you using? If Power FC, read below.

O2 sensors? I wouldn't bother putting new ones. With Power FC, you can have your tuner to turn off O2 feedback, they doesn't really help with fuel economy at all. They work when it's closed loop i.e. pottering about the town.

Sure did!

How about a EBC?

Just trying to cover all angles...!

And 330rwkw... This fellas seems to be making 400rwkw,

EDIT: Yep, using a Power FC. This car will be daily driver so getting the best fuel economy during business hours is always a bonus ;)

Think this fella is using C16 or some sort of race fuel to achieve 400kw. No way -7s will make 400kw on PULP.

EBC isn't necessary but it might bring the response up to 500rpm earlier. Adjustable cam gears definitely helps, so add that if you don't have pair already.

My latest 33 GTR have -7s, exhaust, 600cc injectors, EBC (Turbosmart E Boost street), cam gears. makes 270rwkw and full tank takes me 390km with few launches, some general trashing some traffic stop and starts - which isn't too bad IMO.

But once again, it could use a re-tune to milk more power out of this thing.

So too pretty much sum it up....

I dont have to change anything to compliment my turbo's?

Aftermarket Dumps, Exhaust manifolds, will do nothing vs the stock parts?

Where did you get your car tuned Grant?

Ben, will PM who the GTR was tuned by - I bought the car as it is.

For pair of -7s, no difference in aftermarket parts vs stock parts, so just put it together and get it tuned.

Yes Berry's car was on C16, not PULP - so different ball games really

Plus must be well set up and driven - 10.2 is a good time - I know a few cars can't get below mid to high tens with 500awkw.
