I checked out a R34 25GT Auto Coupe today and some bits have got me a tad bit but does not worry me too much. I just want some opinions on it:

Nagoya Motors

This car was originally bought from Nagoya Motors. Can anyone give feedback on their cars they bring in or any experience with them?

Also complied on the 10/10/11.

ODO Reading

On the import papers, it states that it has done a little over 42,000 KMs (yes I did not miss any digits). Bright red flag here given that the fact the car is 13 years old. 99.99999999999% sure that it has been reset. But the interior is pure immaculate and I've never seen such a clean R34 GT before which supports the KMs by a 00.0000000001%. Barely a nick anywhere.

Should I be too worried about the KMs? Is there any way to verify the KMs?

All panels seem nicely aligned but I'm lead to believe the boot lid was replaced since it has a GTR badge on the lower right corner where your usual GTR badges would sit. Badge also looks genuine too.

Body

Driver side fenders have a big dent due to a hit and run, clean dent, no paint scratched off or severe enough to effect other parts. Could be a bolt on/off replacement?

Front bar is a fibreglass copy of the Altia bar that has minor crack.

Engine Bay - Googled Pic Attached for reference.

Some strange wires leading from what appears to be a factory fitted unit that sits on a golden bracket on the top left corner (driver side) of the engine bay, where most R34's I've seen have it removed. There is several wires leading from it, a few leading to the horn. Didn't get a chance to snap some pics of it but googled an image to get an idea.

Also "Y" pipe where the air intake is connected, has silver paint spray on it which I'm bit sus on.

Others

Nissan GPS unit still operational and in japanese - Can we convert signal to be used here?

GPS: as in the OEM fold up screen on top of the dash? if so - not doable and its a hand grenade anyway. I have built a system that "looks" oem but was not.

Nah man not that one. It's a single DIN GPS unit thats in Japanese. I assume it's OEM since it does have Nissan printed on the unit and is in Japanese. It's still operational but don't know what it says. It's got a flip up LCD.

then its the dealer fitted clarion. not worth the effort. $1300 buys a new clarion navi anayway.

The spray paint will be from someone respraying the engine cover. A true series 1 cover has red writing and is very rare to find in perfect condition. Next best thing is to spray solid silver to look like a series 2 cover. I was offered stupid money by a dealer for ny cover which was a perfect S1 example.

In the spot, What goes here, some kinda module/relay for 4wd models.

But I've seen the bracket that holds the module on almost all the 25GT's I've seen. Why would they need a 4WD relay?

The cover isn't sprayed and the red letters are still there. no signs of overspray around the cover, just the metal bit.

Nah its not man. I didn't get to snap any pics cause my phone was half dying and sunlight was low. Thinking of going in again today to snap some up with an SLR.

Edit: managed to find a pic online from the dealer it was bought from

You can see there is two wires blue and white on the bottom left corner of the pic, those two wires lead to the horn and to the black box where I asked "what goes here". Also you could slightly see the silver paint spray in the pic as well

Had more of a proper look at fast, the black box that goes there is the Wiper amplifier, the other smaller clip on bit is for a relay for 4wd models.

Oh right. What does the amplifier do and why would it be removed from most cars?

To bad mines not on sale till august next year lol no bs attatched. This sounds a little dodgy to me

Mines got 110 000km and the interior looks half the kilometers so interior is not always good judge of KMs.

    • Just checked in first post and you should be able to bring it home November this year, right? I'm amazed you made it through four years of this. As hard as it feels now the rest will go by in a breeze in hindsight, I'm sure.
    • Realized I haven't been back here in a while. Still here, still alive, still waiting for the car.  I went back again the only time last year from Oct-Nov for R's Meeting and drove it around some more, including a few laps on Fuji Speedway(in the wet, sadly). The car still feels good, but have a couple small things to address. I've been getting more parts but have slowed down still, and most of the bigger purchases are now out of the way. I find myself getting impatient more and more when it comes to getting started on this project; it's quite hard for me not being able to really dive in and start making this car my own because it's halfway across the world. At times it doesn't even really feel like I own one of these. Haven't really been motivated or had the desire to document the last trip on here or social media for, well, reasons... but here's some pics...it's also still alive and well as you can see: I've narrowed down to the last large part purchases(anything over $2k) before the engine build to be: 1) Ohlins Road & Tracks 2) ATS Twin Carbon clutch 3) Endless BBK with some custom options and 4) Kansai Service carbon driveshaft I don't think the budget exists for all of these this year, but I'll try for one or two items I think. Though, every time I look at my spreadsheet I sigh, shake my head, and get depressed just that little bit more.  'til later.
    • It's a stunning location!  I've been to NZ twice but haven't made it to the North Island yet.  Definitely on the cards but the South Island is hard to tear yourself away from too... Looking forward to see what you can wring out of it once you can get it to hold together!  Be awesome to get a low 11 or even sneaking into the high 10's pass out of it.  That's a bloody quick car that most people will never experience in their life.  Enjoy!
    • Nominally yes but I’m not really at that stage yet. Outsourcing to Japan is also a relatively good deal at the moment because their currency has devalued much more against the USD.  You would assume this but a lot has changed from the pandemic. Mechanics are in short supply and demand for fixing old cars has gone up from the cost of new cars. 250-300 USD/hr is not an unusual shop labor rate in California and you’re paying that regardless of whether the guy is competent or not. Coworkers have been quoted 3000 USD for a water pump and thermostat at a dealer on an N54. Oil changes went from ~75 USD to 150 on fairly normal cars like Civics. The cost of the oil and filter hasn’t even kept up with inflation.
    • The downside to that is that the cost of everything, particularly labour, is significantly higher here than it is over there in the Disunited States of Slavery. You can hire 3 tradesmen over there for just the Ranger Raptor allowance of a single 3rd year apprentice over here.
