hey all, i have installed an rb25/30 into a hg holden and have conflicting information on which wires on the alternator are wat, i have two thin wires from the brown plug on the alt itself, now from wat i've been researching there are a few different plugs and wires coming from/too the alt itself as some people claim they have a fat and thin wire, but usually one is constant with wat people are saying which is the red/white wire (thin).

i am lead to believe that the white wire with red trace( or vice versa) is a charge indicator lamp wire and the light green (also thin) is 12v positive, now where i am confused is that do i wire the green wire straight onto the battery itself as in can i loop it round and wire it to the positive on the alt itself? or does it have to be a 12v ignition source (key on will provide the power),

any info at all will be muchly appreciated , just want to know which way is the best way to go about it

cheers dave

Can't help with colours but the excitation wire should be ignition fed or it will drain the battery when the key is off.

I have seen numerous topics where it's been shown which is which but can't remember so have a search til someone responds.

cheers mate , i have searched for hours for the same coloured wires but they usually different colours and have a fat and thin wire, you say the excite wire needs to be switched whereas other threads suggest to constant battery power, this is what i'm trying to sort but it does make sense to switch it
