Clunk When Breaking

Hey guys,

When im breaking i can one loud "clunk" coming from under the car, its hard to pin point where abouts though and its driving me nuts! Its just the one "clunk" the after its happened it will only do it again after ive put forward motion then break again.. Any ideas??

Braking ? Not break dancing lol

Loose rim lug nuts?

Loose caliper bolts that rock the caliper back an forth on and off brakes

Brake pads without a shim ? If required ?

Loose pads /pins holding the pads?

Suspension bushings or joints loose?

something unrelated loose hitting / loose battery tray hold downs ?

Water bottle or junk in the boot or under seat?

If its on and off power then it would be axle , diff, propshaft or tranny related

All the above can be a serious problem so check the first on the list before driving more

As above. But another common issue is the castor rod bushes are flogged out

...and not forgetting a possible broken engine mount?

Process of elimination of some of these can be done at Pedders Multi Point Check

Anyone have any idea what and where this should be? It seems to just be dangling there its coming down beside my gearbox

Its the breather for the gearbox. Its usually held in place by one of the bolts that holds the gearbox on. Just tie it down to secure it. Next time you do the clutch it can be reconnected.

When i had clunks like you it was castor aka radius rod bushes.

could be as little as your shocks are out of grease and get stuck when braking .. it happens to yhe wrx sti shocks and need regreasing

Theres a bit of play in my in my tailshaft.. I can spin it back and forth about 10mm before it even moves the wheels, could this be the clunk when breakin?

Could possibly be. Although I would have said its a more high pitch noise than a clunk and would generally do it as you take off or back off rather than braking.

Either way you should fix it

Or was that supposed to be they were low on Gas?

Na its been here for awhile, only just posting about it now because ive finally gotten sick of it, im thinkin its ether my centre drive shalf or cv's, have to change em and find out i guess
