Try calling a company called cruise control specialist in sydney see if he has a contact in melbourne. or a company called autron in melbourne they sell cruise controls they might have a reccomended installer.

The ones I supplied were AP-900C as sold here by C0mmand. The 'C' is for CAN-bus, but that part didn't work in our favour, so the (cheaper?) AP-900 will do.

If you get someone to supply/install one for you, get them to leave the stalk unmounted. Nicest result is with the backlit steering wheel controls. Can buy them from Nissan for $75 - $80, & that includes the stereo controls as well - ie both sides of the wheel have buttons.

The AP900 is user programmable for response/overrun etc. Very handy if you make changes to your car (especially different turbo) as it allows you to change the settings to suit yourself.

Chris' kit should come with steering wheel controls, but they are the older style (from what I have heard/seen in the past) & don't come with LED backlighting. Not a big deal I suppose, but those of us with the newer switches really appreciate not having to remember what button does what in the dark.

I heard from a M35 owner in the Newcastle area who found someone to supply & install one like mine for ~$750 (no switches), & I thought that was a pretyy good deal for a locally sourced unit.

If you don't want to think for yourself & do much chasing around, then get one from Chris as it will work fine.

Before I bought 20 in from the manufacturer, Chris didn't allow DIY install on his, & the installed cost was $900. I wouldn't have bothered if I could have bought his kit for ~$700 & installed it myself. Looks like he changed his mind.

In case you are wondering, most people bought mine for <$500 inc switches

I recently had the Command AP900 system fitted to my car for $750, Freeway Car Audio in Dandenong.

They will probably want to check the car out first to make sure/double check wire colours for the harness.

The kit I got has the RF controller, no stalk at all and the passengers in the back can set the cruise.

Noted :ninja:

That's a good price, for Aust supplied retail.

Not sure about the controller tho. Besides not wanting anyone else playing with the CC whilst I'm driving, it will need batteries every now & then. I had a few C0mmand IR controllers on my work car stop working (break) before I tossed the lot out. Your RF one may be more reliable, but I like that the factory switches are good quality, wired in & just for the driver, lol.

It took about 3-4 hours from memory.

That's pretty standard for 1st time. (It took me >2 months to get mine going initially, haha).

Like anything, subsequent times would be much less, ie <2hrs.

The factory switches are the reason why I went for the RF remote, once installed I will be able to throw the RF controller in the glove box and forget.

Ahh, I see. Good choice :)

If you need any info/help on setting up the switches, read my thread on m35stagea.info or message me.

Wow thanks for the in depth info guys. So far I have rung Autron and their Melbourne installer No Limit want $880 to supply and fit an Autron cruise complete with the little control button box to go on the side of the wheel or a stalk.

Chris charges $710 delivered for his cruise which includes the Nissan switches (can't confirm if backlit or not), he said it was a Lawrence & Pederson unit that is commercially fitted to a number of vehicle brands.

The deal from Freeway Car Audio seems pretty good then, I guess the only thing I'm thinking now is, if I DIY my cruise, sell the car and it malfunctions, who's arse is going to get kicked for it? Is there legislation covering the installation of cruise controls?

So I rang Freeway, they quoted $690 installed for the CP900 which seems very reasonable.

I'd probably just get them to fit the stalk as I'm used to a stalk and think it is the most ergonomic arrangement for my hand when my arm is resting on the armrest whilst cruising. You can just adjust it with your fingertips instead of having to move your hand onto the wheel centre itself. Just my 2c of human factors engineering.

PV were you satisfied with the workmanship and the quality of kit itself?

CP900 or AP900?

In any case - good price for installed cruise, especially if you want to use the stalk. I think there's really only one spot to successfully mount the stalk & Andrew's turned out good in that regard.

Not sure about ergonomics, but if it's good enough for the factory...

Plus you get audio controls thrown in. That's worth the effort IMO.
