Hopefully someone had a similar issue and can point me in the right direction. Last night I popped the boot to check something, went to close the boot and the latch wouldn't catch. Slammed down the boot a few times with more force, but nothing!!

Checked the latch on the actual boot, it was still open, flicked the inside with a screwdriver and it clicked shut so that's working. Checked the level on the car and that moved fine when I push it down. Checked the two bolts on the car which the latch holds onto but they were on tight. Loosened them anyway and tried to moved it higher up in case it couldn't reach the latch on the boot but it was already at the maximum height. Checked the alignment and that was fine too.

WTF has happened, boot was fine two days ago!!

could be anything. Just keep troubleshooting it as its not an overly complex mechanism and im sure you will find the problem n solve it.

Iv fixed 3 boot latches now. they are frustratng but ultimately fixable (99% of the time). Usually its some sort of alignment thats gone out or a pin or spring has come loose (15~ yr old cars)
