Hi guys,

i have recently purchased a R33 GTR 96 and I'm loving it except for one lil annoying problem.

The whole car is stock besides the exhaust system. the car has done 56xxxkms freshly imported.

Anyways done abit of research and thought I would take out the restrictor. very impressed with the power gains but then sometimes when i shift up gears at higher RPM (7.5 - 8) it makes this weird slightly crunchy noise.

Anyone experienced this before?? to me it sounds like the gearbox or clutch cant handle the increased boost...

hope you can help

thanks :)

If it's a gear crunching you will feel it through the gear stick. The gearbox will handle a s#it load more than the 250 odd kw you are now putting through it. When you do pump too much through them they won't crunch a gear, they will destroy a gear, and that will be the end of your gearbox.. At what point does it make the sound? Is it only the sound? Also your car doesn't have 56,000k on it, so don't assume all the parts are that new..

thanks for the reply, Its only the sound. It happens when i change in higher RPM.

i got my mechanic friend to quickly test drive it and he thinks the noise is related to the bov not venting the air properly..

A bov does not make a crunch noise. It makes a pew noise or a cascading pew.

A crunch is a crunch. And if it only happens going to one gear then that gear has had a bad time.

Also if you dont have the import certificate or full service history then it doesnt have 50xxxx km

I dont really know how to describe the noise, crunch noise was the first thing came to mind lol.

it goes something like this "hhhhhhuuuuuuuunggghh" but if i change gears really fast then it doesnt make that sound

i got my mechanic to check the car (on hoist), and he said that all the signs lead to a legitimate kms. Even if the kms are not true i dont really care I'm loving the car and its immaculate.

I dont really know how to describe the noise,....

it goes something like this "hhhhhhuuuuuuuunggghh"

I heard that sound once too - 'twas in a film

Something to do with surveillance equipment.

...in "Meet The Parents" I think...
