Hello from across the world!

Great forum you guys have here, i've been poking around and finding some great R34 information on here (Since I can't read Japanese)

As you guys may or may not know - Us Canadians can also import vehicles from Japan - However we must wait until the car is 15 years or older. So, 2014 we can finally import the R34's! I have some questions if you guys don't mind, as I plan to purchase one late 2013 and import in 2014.

First off is regarding colors, this mainly applies to the GTR and GTR Vspec as it's a toss between those two that I plan on purchasing.

I'm aware of the various colors available, and have seen pictures of all of them as well. Which of these colors are considered "rare"? Since many Canadians will be importing these cars, i'd prefer to take the color that is less common. I'd LOVE Bayside Blue, and I still may choose that color - however I feel that will be the #1 color everyone else picks.

I'm very fond of the Millenium Jade and Silica Breath colors as well. Are any of these colors (Excluding Z-tune Silver) ONLY on v-specs? Are there colors that are only on GTR's? Only on GTS?

Second question, Is the V-spec worth the extra money? From what i've been reading it also comes with a lap timer and G-meter (G-meter sounds pretty cool), exhaust/intake temp on the display. A little bit of CF goodies and a better suspension. Is it worth it? Keep in mind, being a 15 year old car when I get it, i'll most likely be changing suspension items to stiffer aftermarket.

Lastly, what websites are you guys looking at in Japan to look at vehicles? I've been using...

http://www.japaneseusedcars.com/auction/auctions_results.htm

To get a general idea on how much they are selling for. Are there any others you guys could recommend?

Thanks guys!

I know this is a Skyline forum, but I figured i'd show you guys my current ride that I will be departing with for an R34 next year!

Nice beamer. I didn't know they made convertable m3's

Right'o - colours -

There were specific GTR colours and they were different colours avalible between Series 1 and Series 2. Nissan never released info on specifc production numbers in terms of colours, but Mid Night Purple 2 & 3 are the lease common with <300 made of each.

Info on paint codes: http://www.skylinesa...an-paint-codes/

V-spec vs normal GTR -

The differences have been discussed alot and it's really up to you whether you beleive the extra money is worth it. IMHO your better off getting a well looked after normal GTR rather then getting a rusty vspec.

Vspec's don't come with a g-meter. This is the Nismo MFD that can bought seperatly - only UK cars came with this standard.

Heres the list: http://www.skylinesa...vspec-vspec-ii/

Browsing auctions -

Contact a decent importer with GTR experince to look for you (e.g. Iron Chef) - It's silly to buy a GTR without someone knowledgable to look over it.

Millenium Jade and Silica Breath are only available in the NUR spec versions of the V-spec II, so if you're only considering a base model GTR or even a v-spec, then you can forget these 2 colours. I don't know how things will pan out in Canada once people start importing R34 GTRs there, but the V-spec II hold their value much more than the V-spec which hold their value more than base GTRs. Yese the higher you go the more expensive things get, but likewise they also hold their value much more - even somewhat disproportionately. Here in Aus for example, there's an abundance of base model GTRs and V-specs for sale which can be had for quite cheap, whereas the NUR and other newer models are harder to come by and fetch quite a bit more generally speaking.

Mike,

The OP will be limited to 'normal' GTR's and Vspecs (1999 year model - only ones that will be >15yrs old). - But your right, once the vspec2 etc hit the canadian market in 2016/2017, they will probarly see a similar differentation in prices on the 2nd hand market that we see in Australia.

Awesome, thanks for the information guys. Looks like i'll more than likely pick up a standard GTR and perhaps buy the Nismo display afterwards.

Also just wanted to note, I'm not looking for auction sites to buy myself - I do plan on using a reputable Canadian import company. This was just more for me to peak around at cars before hand.

Rare colours for the early models are:

Midnight Purple II (limited edition)

Lightning Yellow (only available in series 1)

Active Red (only available in series 1)

Silica Breath didn't come out till 2001 with the M-Spec, Millennium Jade didn't come out till 2002 with the Nurs.

Red nurs wouldnt that be something! Wedge i also saw in another thread you mentioned that 5 midnight purple nurs were made. Care to share your source? Iron chef have you ever seen or heard of nurs in red or midnight purple?

Red was never available on series 2s, wedge, but someone with some coin may well have ordered it as a special order on a Nur. I've never seen one come red from the factory though. I've heard rumours of midnight purple Nurs though, and given they were quite a popular colour earlier on, that wouldn't surprise me. There's a midnight purple Z-tune getting around too.

Thats the only picture i've seen of it. It could be just a sticker though.

Was shown in that other thread that jason was talking about:

http://www.skylinesa...-color-options/

Source regarding the MNP nur's was just google...hence it's only a rumor.

This is where i orginally came across it:

http://forums.gtrcan...rification.html

Just to spread some more rumors, I also read somewhere that nismo was doing aftermaket MNP paint jobs for a while...this could be the source of that MNP 'nur' rumors.

It's not too hard to imagine someone throwing money at Nissan to paint it MNP or some other colour, but those cars would be extremely rare I would think.

    • Yes...but look at the numbers. There is a tiny tiny fraction of the number of Joules available, compared to what is used/needed. Just because things are "possible" doesn't make them meaningful.
    • Thanks for taking the time to post that ! If anything changes or happens please do update us.
    • Somehow Vertimass/Oak Ridge National Labs has figured out a catalyst that can convert ethanol into C9-C10 hydrocarbons in basically a single step without ending up with a bunch of ethylene or similar waste products: https://patents.google.com/patent/WO2023224867A1/en I still don't think anything like this will keep us from needing to transition to EVs regardless along with all kinds of other electrification, but things like this will go a long way towards alleviating the problem of how to electrify things like planes. Renewable diesel is seemingly an easier problem as well, Chevron is already running refineries for the stuff and the primary feedstock is tallow and other waste fats from agriculture.
    • Ok so I have sorted everything with my uniclutch and  i can offer up a bit of feedback and some things that might help others.    I found problems with factory damper line. Weird shit and had trouble with peddle adjustment    I used this https://au.gktech.com/products/r33-gts-t-skyline-braided-clutch-line?_pos=2&_sid=22b01b9b9&_ss=r Also when adjusting peddle leave a bit of play. You can get into a over stroke condition easy.. Make sure you can push the slave forward after adjusting to confirm fluid can return to master then you will need to pump it up heaps…..not sure why but that’s how it is.    last thing the splined adapter is machined perfectly. If your input shaft is old like mine was I would put a bit of valve grinding paste on it and stroke it like a 15 year old. Just to give it a tad more clearance and to better match it to the spline.    reason is on a near flat shift I have had situation where the peddle returns a millisecond after you lift from the clutch. No slip or anything but I reckon this is due to tolerance on the spline being way tighter than stock clutch and binding for a sec. I think this will go away but also my spline was old. Box is old so I guess I should have checked better. It’s a super neat fit.    it feels light as and holds awesome without any noise
