2. Is there a blanket ban on kids driving anything turbocharged these days? (When I was on my Ps it used to just be power to weight but no one gave 2 stuffs anyway and still drove GTRs, supras etc. We used to get the older guys telling us that in their days there were NO limits and they were allowed to drink also :/ )

Pretty much how it was until very recently. Now instead of a complete blanket ban they've made some exceptions; namely (stolen from le vicroads site)

  • turbo powered vehicles with a power-to-mass ratio of less than 130 kilowatts per tonne, and the manufacturer has placed the power-to-mass ratio on the build plate.
  • turbocharged or supercharged with a power to weight ratio of less than 100kW per tonne
  • turbocharged or supercharged with a power to weight ratio between 100kW and 125kW per tonne and that is considered to be a family type vehicle (four seats or more) rather than a sports type vehicle. A family type vehicle is a sedan, station wagon or hatch normally used to carry families/passengers with four or more seats and is equipped with child restraint anchorages. A family type vehicle does not include a sports car (two door coupe).

Yes that would be the smarter thing to do, but I'm 100% sure you have been in my position, and just simply wanted a car for when I'm 18, I've wanted a Skyline since i saw them and I was thinking over it today and I am certain I will be purchasing a R33 GTS.

Lol yeh true, I was in that exact position, and fkn regret wasting so much money on them lol

Buy something cheap and reliable. My first car that was my own, and not Mum or Dad's haha was a CE lancer. Nothing special at all, not many comforts and got a lot of crap for buying it! But hey it was cheap as chips to run and ran on the smell of an oily rag. Maintenance costs were very minimal and I still have that car today 4 years on as a run-a-round. Trust me, depending on what you plan on doing post year 12 you WONT want to be forking out massive amounts for fuel, and you'll only spend money modding a car you don't truly want to drive.

In that time I saved money and purchased my first turbo vehicle (R33 GTST), and then came on to my second. Personally I'd advise you against going for a GTS, but hey thats me. If you are set on it, go for it! And don't let me trod on your having a car you might possibly love! But all I'm saying is look at the bigger picture, of when you're off your P's!

Plus, I've never had any experience but I might say that in 4 (?) years when you're off the P's, and if you were still driving it, it would be somewhat hard to sell a 20something-old, non-turbo import.

Best of luck though mate :)

Personally I think the choice is just up to whether or not you'll be happy with the car you want.

You will be stuck with it for 3-4 years on your Ps. I chose to buy an r34 25-gt and still love it. :D
