Last couple of months i have had insomniac tendencies to the point i find myself here at 2:30am when i went to bed at 10pm. Maybe its just this sleeping pattern i have created due to work and uni. But i think its more due to stress and voices in my head reminding me of all the deadlines i need to reach as soon as the head hits the pillows. Any of you go through this phase and how did you manage to overcome it ?

do you write a list of all your deadlines?

if you compile a list you know it's all written down so your not trying to retain it all in your noggin

do you exercise?

getting some proper exercise is a must to switch your brain off

do you drink a lot of caffeine?

if yes, try not to have any after lunch... and cut back

Used to go gym 3-4 times a week but that stopped as soon as uni and work started to get more hectic,

I don't compile a list to be honest i pretty much know when stuff is due in my head. Which might

be the problem ! but i dont do caffeine as that makes me even worse. I think its just stress and screwed

up sleeping pattern i will try writing out a list if that helps.

yep stress 100%... its a cycle... stressed so you get poor sleep, which makes it harder to concentrate and remember things... this makes you even more anxious and stressed... which leads to more poor sleep... then people OD on caffeine to help them focus and it makes sleep even harder

writing a list helps as you know it's on a bit of paper and you don't need to worry your forgetting something... I know it sounds like something girls do but it helps lol

if you wake up in the middle of the night don't just lie there being a nervous wreck... get up and read a book or watch TV for half an hour or so til you feel sleepy again then go back to bed

good luck with the study... don't forget to go out and have fun every now and then;)

Seriously though - do more.

I used to rarely sleep more than 5hrs a night. I quit recently and am now in the process of starting up my restaurant (a Squires Loft in Nunawading :D) - and even though I'm 100x more stressed currently, I'm sleeping like a champ because I'm simply exhausted and not sitting down for 12hrs a day like i was previously in an office job

I used to rarely sleep more than 5hrs a night. I quit recently and am now in the process of starting up my restaurant (a Squires Loft in Nunawading :D) - and even though I'm 100x more stressed currently, I'm sleeping like a champ because I'm simply exhausted and not sitting down for 12hrs a day like i was previously in an office job

Will do i think hitting the gym for an 1 hour or more in the day or evening is what i need, I like to work out in the summer opposed to winter when i just stopped all

together, lost 15 kg in a few months and even though i still retain a good weight,

just feel unfit, I sometimes work night shift come home at 1am after 7 hour shift im a printing assistant so im usually moving around, so even though i might be tired

it does not mean i will fall asleep quickly, i have just gotten really bad at falling asleep but once i am asleep im all good.

Sleeping problems?? - DO SQUATS!

Might work for you but i dont know about me haha

Holistic approach...

1) Body - you might have have a mitral valve dysfunction or it could even be ventricular fibrillation > cardiologist knows. Right now, stay fit - play sport (as Darko alluded to).

2) Mind - you might need to fill up your day with full 'to do' list (as Ash alluded to) and then before bed, make up tomorrow's 'to do' list (as Nick alluded to)

3) Genetics/Biochem - you might optimise you melatonin pathway (as Birds alluded to) with Vit B3 + Taurine + Tryptophan > serotonin > melatonin

4) Spirit - talk to God

Doesn't matter if I sleep for 1 hour, 14 hours or anything in between, I without a doubt will wake up tired and feel not run down but like I can't function.

Generally get 8 hours sleep every night, rarely wake up during the night. Don't toss and turn and generally can't remember dreams.

No but my partner does. She has chronic fatigue syndrome - Basically she can sleep no joke for 14 hours a day and still can't function.

wow. what a complete and utter load of bollocks being thrown at you on here.

terry? spirit? are you freaking serious? he could worship satan and it wouldnt help his sleep pattern.

mate if you cant sleep it could be due to a number of factors. your not tired. your brain is not tired. your stressed. etc.

as some guys have said tire your self out.

easy way to overcome your "head"

turn off phone. tv etc. read. you will get tired eventually. make it something your interested in not work related.

when that tires you out, but your still laid there thinkin of crap, listen to relaxing music thru head phones.... in the pitch black.

all helped me. unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control i now have to sleep with noise and light in the back ground. this makes me very tired.

Who said he has a sleep disorder?

What he described Melatonin would have no affect. He didn't say he had trouble sleeping. He said sleeping didn't make him feel any better. Big difference. Melatonin only really helps insomnia (In some cases) and in small doses (about 3 months or so) apart from that there is very little evidence that says the drug even helps with that.

The most common cause of sleep issues is stress. The OP sounds like he is just stressed at the moment and it will pass. However what FIGJAM explained is a completely different condition.

    • Once you have to get up in the morning and be useful, you suddenly value sleep it turns out :p
    • Update:   smoke test all pipes no issues cleaned reservoir   fluid put in ( dexron 3 atf)   steering turn side to side and could hearing  gurgling from steering rack which I assumed was air lock, opened one of the steering rack connections and could see loads of air getting pushed out( not sure if you meant to do that / whether it will re introduce air into system)   anyways, loads of side to side sound was gone. Turned car on, pump was slightly ( barely) wining so turned side to side few more turns and fluid level when car on was almost none in resorvoir which I guess is normal if car is one. Turned car of and fluid was gushing out. Almost 200-300cc was pushed out. Repeated engine off side to side followed  by engine on and same result       going mad now. It seems system is either sucking air in whilst on or there is tons of air which I am not giving it enough time to bleed. Thoughts?   would it work like brake caliper if I open steering rack copper pipes and let gravity pull all air out?   or maybe have a restriction somewhere? What is the red circled item, could that be blocked? It i
    • Yeah, the plan is to just put some black rubber vacuum line caps over them to "hide" them a bit I don't want to trim them in cause I need to put the OEM box back on at some stage
    • It's a load sense idle up valve.
    • Plug and play. Need a tune. It's a PowerFC, same as any other PFC, just not needing an AFM.
