Hey, i have roughly 10 grand saved up and am tossing up whether to get an r33 gtst, or an s13 or s14 silvia. I went for a drive in a gtst the other day and i quite liked it, it felt small and quite firm contrary to what i hear about them being heavy slugs, would a silvia really be that much lighter? also i liked the solid feel of the gtst, not tinny. I want a car that will be relatively fast in a straightline and force you back in the seat a bit when it spools, the gtst i drove wasn't quite fast enough for me so i would modify mine if a got one a tad. i also like it when cars on youtube vids take a while to spool and then all of a sudden BAM the turbo kickis in hard. would a silvia do this with slight mods or is this easier with a skyline? also the skyline is more reliable yes? with the rb25 and the strong manual box.. i want reliability and a lightish but solid car that will slam your head back a bit and break traction in 2nd on dry asphalt whats better for acheiving this sil or sky. also there will be a tad of drifting.

Thats all my questions i would appreciate anyone with experience to help me out as i cant test drive a silvia. thankyou kindly

I absolutely agree, I would be much more interested in drifting if the drivers didn't treat the cars like disposable cameras. Especially as there aren't too many RWD turbo manual cars being made nowadays.

you want turbo lag? buy one with a big turbo... - going to have a less smooth torque curve, not as good for drifting.

either car with the right power will break traction in 2nd easier in a gtst

WTB VL wagon in japan? im guessing project?

I have a VL wagon in aus if you want to buy it and ship it to japan.

at that price I think you're on the right track with an s14 or an r33.

both are in your budget, both have lots of parts availability and aftermarket options, and both have large communities with lots of 'know how'.

my advice would be buy the best stock car you can for your budget and then mod it as you can afford it. Too many guys out there who want the car for the same reasons you do! lol.

beyond that - if you want a straight line car, go the R33 - like you said, the engines are tried and trued, and the transmissions take a beating. do your basic intake and exhaust mods and with some boost you'll see 200rwkw no worries - from there a bigger turbo will get you that 'shove in the back' you're looking for. if you live in built up areas - i'd go for something like this because the traffic light GP is about the only time you'll get to enjoy the car's performance.

if you're more about twisties, doing some drift days and learning to drive a car to it's abilities etc - then i'd go the S-chassis. again - good reliable motors - pretty easy to get power out of - but lots of affordable suspension tuning options that will be fun to play with and see the rewards on the track or the twisties if you live in an area where they're quiet and accessible.

either way - i don't think you'd be overly disappointed with one or the other.

It probably comes down to which you prefer the look of (IMO S14B over R33) or which you prefer the sound of (IMO RB over SR).

Keep looking for both, and just buy the one that feels right.

think they're just a more chuckable platform - bit lighter - torquey motor.

not trying to start a debate or anything - i'm sure there are pros and cons to both and having owned neither and never drifted on a track i'm probably not qualified to answer!

but seriously - car you drive every day is, for me, how it looks, feels, sounds. I think considerations like 'which car will spin second better' or 'which car will hold more angle when i go gutter to gutter down my street' are fairly irrelevant in a daily......lol

Im keen on a 33 now for reliabilty factors and more straightline potential

This link demonstrates what i'd hope to get out of it eventually, how much do you think it'd cost to have a safe set up like this? and its 420 or so hp is that safe with good tuning? the cost?

Cheers. even 350ish or so hp would be sweet, would 350hp be a much safer and less costly approach? And it will be my daily if that helps.
