Beware - R34 Gtr For Sale In Sydney

Recommended Posts

I was in Sydney on the weekend and hadn't yet read this thread, long story short had a look at couple of private seller cars which I passed on.

While in town had some time to kill so got on trusty old google and found all of these Import dealers along Parramatta road... One even had "Sydney's Most Trusted and Respected Import Car Dealership!" plastered all over their website hahaha.

Sat in the R34 S1 on Sunday and the salesman went on to explain how its not one of the 200 built and that the previous owner had bought the car stock then when to Nismo in japan to have the goods fitted, to be honest looks like a nice car however I doubt very highly the validity of the Km's and the asking price seems ridiculous vs the quality of the car. The Interior was not from a "very well looked after" 47xxxKm car, steering wheel is covered in scratches, seat bolsters weren't worn through but they did seam a little age softened, the front bar lip has a crack in the drivers side plus the usual scrapes, the window and boot seals appear sun damaged, and the paint work seemed to have had a pretty poor cut and polish.

I am on expert by any stretch but after reading this and seeing what I have best to just keep squirrelling away money until the right one comes along, whilst collecting as much advice and knowledge possible along the way.

A phoenix job?

I'll ask now about new owners perhaps.

The brothers ET and JT seem to be trying to corner the market along P'matta Rd and beyond.

I'm led to believe that they own two businesses side by side - presenting themselves as being separate. Good ploy?

The f**k

Ed Lees - Phil Lee on MCM

f**k OFF

SNIP

MCM is such a joke of a show, I used to watch it, but it's so full of crap now it isn't entertaining. Both hosts annoy the shit out of me, and all they seem capable of doing is crappy bolt on mods, or taking cars to mechanics to get done up. That 'moog' bloke talks so much rubbish too. Errghh don't get me started..

I actually went down last weekend to check out the Purple GTR. The car wasn't in the yard as according to Phil, it was down the panel beaters getting a touch up as he is a "perfectionist". He was quite persistent about me leaving a 100% refundable deposit, all subject to my viewing of the car. Of course, i am not an idiot and refused until i saw the car and did my own checks on it.

Lucky i did or i wouldn't have come across this thread! What an interesting read it has been so far. I have always been weary of Edward Lee's. Been watching his market for a few years and have always had my suspicions.

I paid for an ODO check on the car. Just received the report. It is currently in Japanese and will upload the translated version of it when i get it. But there is enough information there to prove his is happy to con people out of 49K!

$49K is a 'bargain'!

Regardless of how many 100s of Kms it's travelled, fatz could part it out for at least $50K :P

Lie straight in bed tonight Phil :P

Lol and people get Bent out of shape when I offer 30k for their genuine 40'000 km car

You know you have a shit heap when I don't offer anything for your bucket r34

Yes, they can even scrutinise which "R" cars have had head-ons and suffered more than just cosmetic panel replacement.

This actually makes a strong point when you think about it :)
Exactly; which is why I kept my GT-R instead of trying to flog it off. I know it will have to go for cheap, already dropped too much money into it and don't want to go cheaper than $15k for it, even though it's not worth that much in the current market.

    • Because there is still an engine underneath that turbo. PSI is not a measurement of power, it's a byproduct of resistance. What would be really decent is to have a CFM gauge on the output of a turbo to see how much it's actually pushing. 21psi (as an example) is not the same amount of air at 3000rpm as it is at 7000rpm, even if the boost controller is controlling boost at "21psi". The engine is inhaling and exhaling way more air at 7000 than at 3000, even if it's less efficient.
    • don't want anything more or less, I don't really understand why the torque still goes up to 6000-6500, while the boost peak is around 4000. if it only comes from the cams or from the boost controller etc.
    • I'm not sure you understand the physics of what you are asking. Can you draw on the dyno graph what you want to have happen? I'm thinking this is a functional impossibility here, unless you chose a turbo literally so laggy that torque is at max at 7000rpm and artificially choked prior to that. Power and Torque are intrinsically linked. Power is just Torque over time. What you're really seeing in the torque graph is "Power per RPM" if that makes any sense whatsoever. You still get more power at 7000rpm than 5000rpm, because it is "power per RPM" and you have more RPM. at 7000 than you do at 5000. You still feel more powerful at 7000rpm. The torque graph will influence the rate of power increase per RPM.
    • Welcome!  If possible,  would live to see some pics. How long was it away getting the work done? Hopefully it feels like a new machine.
    • yes indeed the graphic format makes a visual difference but there is on average 120nm more between 4000 and 6000rpm on the curves it is not nothing. you are right, the cams influence the torque curve. I was able to chat with one of the Hypergear tuners, he confirmed that a boost control allows you to manage the pressure after the spool. the absolute pressure (psi) on the graphics is measured where? It seems that the cams affect the maximum pressure depending on the regime but I may be wrong.   not pleasant to drive before 4000? if we spend our lives between 1000 and 3000 rpm as you say then we might as well just run diesel turbos
