hello SAU.

i've just brought my first car, a skyline of course. I've had it for a year now with litte problems. although its only a stepping stone for my skyline I take alot of care maintaing it as best i can with my engineering and servicing experience.

its a r33 1997 gts25 import with 180000ks

recently after returning from overseas my car has had a painfully rough idle and warm start up issue only below 2000 rpm. the engine feels as if its missing or almost stalling randomly at any stops especially. i was attempting to replace the gaskets and polish the head lights and foggies before i started it the first time. so i cant tell if its something ive done or its happened while i was away. when it was being started and driven once every 2 weeks. i took out the coils and plugs, cleaned and inspected them while sealing all the valve cover everything seemed fine.

i've tried everything ive reasearched so far and nothing seems to work it has no fault codes. i cleaned the AAC and the MAF but found no change. the plugs and coils seem fine only one with a small crack in the ceramic and another coil with some oil on the outside of the boot but no noticeable firing issues. i do have a power steering leak and it moans when its cold. hence the AAC check.

Please help cheers!

i was out for 4 months but i had realitives starting it and driving it small distances, i had driven through the last quater tank that was left in it and just refilled it but the problem is still happening. could it be a injector?

okay so i changed the fuel filter, and the plugs still going. i poured in a whole bottle of injector cleaner in the tank and its still going for it when im at the lights. im starting to believe its the torque converter.

so i put a bottle of the auto trans fluid in and it seemed to make it worse if anything.i rememebered a while ago just before i left i dropped a shattered end of a screwdriver down the back of the the intake valve cover i was too frustrated with the screwdriver and finding another one i forgot to get it out. I was thinking maybe just maybe it has somehow slid down and is causing the torque converter clutch to slip between free and engaged please tell me im a complete idiot and its something much simpler and this is impossible.

It sounds like you need to take it to a mechanic. For starters, have them drain all the extra trans fluid you put in so it didn't damage the gearbox (you can't just put in a bottle of fluid if it doesn't need it).

Secondly, unless you had the gearbox off at the time, the screwdriver wouldn't get into the torque convertor.

Thirdly, you should only use injector cleaner at the recommended dosage, and it won't just magically fix any problems straight away. It will take most of the tank of fuel to do anything, but those injector cleaners don't do much. You are best off having the injectors professionally cleaned.

i meant the transfluid conditioner stufff which told me to put in a whole bottle. and same with the injector cleaner it reccomended half a bottle to a tank but strictly said overdosing will not affect it at all.

but im determined even without the screwdriver its still the torque converter im going to take it in soon. thanks

    • They see me rollin' they hatin'....... Took me most of the day to make the necessary mods to the mounts to make them fit the car.  Fortunately I was able to just use the mounts that came with the rotisserie. The rear ones are really secure, the front I feel i might reinforce a bit more as it doesn't seem like enough attachment to the vehicle. I'm sure it's fine but better to be safe than (extremely...) sorry.  I drilled and tapped thread into additional M12 holes to each car mount where it attaches to the rotisserie as an extra fail-safe. Without them the side to side movement is just restricted by the allen head pinch bolts, nothing actually goes though the beam. Does now! I still need to adjust the rotisserie to get the car centred in terms of centre of gravity. If it's too high or too low relative to the rotational centre line of the car, it will be like a turtle and roll onto its back or as it currently sits, I dont think I'd be able to rotate it as it sits as it needs to lift the whole car up as it rotates. Ain't happening... I'm going to be nervous as hell the first time I go to spin it on its side...
    • Oh yes done this when the window started flopping around.  Turns out the guides that run along the rail chanel had crumbed way. Took off the door card and pulled out the window mech, then the window, which you have to pull out through the top. As said unbolt the guide rail and don't spend 30 minutes getting frustrated trying to find a way to slide it out upwards cause that don't frigging work. Drop it down and out through the door hole. All I did to repair it was slice some 10mm clear plastic tube, vertically, then screw it to the guide rail both sides. This tubing rolls inward on both sides and leaves a gap wide enough to hold the window. To finish all I did was lube the plastic tube with olive oil and Bob's your uncle . . . well if he has the operation he can be your Aunt ! !  10 bucks in plastic tube and another 5 minute job done again . . . . YEH BULLSH#T ! My love for Skylines knows no bounds !
    • So was there a solution to this problem? I’m having this issue now.
    • not expensive, just irreplaceable if you don't go sub 60 at wakie in that thing people will start talking
    • I haven't replaced that, but I have had the doors apart on the r32 a couple of times The door skin will be held on by a combination of clips and bolts, just take it slowly and make sure all the sneaky hidden bolts are out Once the skin is off you should be able to pop that piece off pretty easily, looks like there are only 2 bolts holding it on
