Hi,

I've got a whining noise in my gearbox. From Wht others are saying it's quite common in r33 gearboxes. Has anyone had this repaired? if so what caused it and how much did cost?

Doesn't affect performance in anyway it seems but im looking to fix mine.

I can't seem to find anymore info so if anyone could help narrow down the search with some key words on what this problem is that would be handy too.

Thanks

It really depends on the symptoms mate.

I'd like to say its the input shaft bearing but in reality only 1 in 30 ever are. It's almost impossible to shag that bearing.

It is most likely to be the hard casing worn off 4th gear and the opposing counter shaft.

So depending on if your symptoms match that, you need to replace the counter shaft and input shaft to fix it. About $1000 for those two parts from memory and then another $1500 for gearbox rebuild and about $350-400 to R&R your box....roughly

Thanks for the reply.

Sounds like it's in reverse in all gears including neutral when clutch pedel isn't down except fourth gear. Shifts feel good though better than the stock box i had before. I'll check into it some more

Ok well if you have noises in all gears except 4th, the problem is likely to be a counter shaft bearing. It's the only time the counter shaft has no load transfer.

Is the sound definitely still there in 5th or is it just so loud from the road noise that you can't hear it?
