The speed limit in the pitlane is now officially 80 km/h over the course of grand prix weekends after the rule was ratified by the World Motor Sport Council.


The FIA then decided to bring the regulation charge forward and the speed limit has been reduced to 80 km/h (49.7 mph) from the Hungarian Grand Prix onwards as opposed to the 100 km/h (62.1 mph) it was before the incident.


The Australian, Monaco and Singapore Grands Prix, though, will continue to have a stricter speed limit of 60 km/h (37.2 mph) because of the nature of the circuits.


The WMSC also confirmed that all team members who work on a car during pit stops must now wear head protection.

between the new pit lane speed limits increasing time spent in the pit lane per pitstop, and the new tyres which apparently turned out to be more durable in terms of performance and life as well as strength/safety, race strategy just got turned on its head...

Formula One will once again make a stopover in Austria next year as the country will return to the calendar.

The race is set to take place at the refurbished Red Bull Ring in Spielberg on July 6 following negotiations between Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz and F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.

The good news is there will be no rain in Budapest this weekend, the bad news is it's going to be extremely hot.


Ambient temperatures of 32'C to 38'C have been forecast with Sunday being the hottest at 38'C.


But while the air may be hot, the track will be even hotter.


Williams Tweeted their forecast: "Weather forecast no rain, ambient temps up to 38C, track temps up to 50C! could be hard for tyres."

Daniel Ricciardo's hopes of landing the second seat at Red Bull have been boosted after team owner Dietrich Mateschitz admitted the team was impressed with his recent speed."There is no decision yet, and it is still under discussion within the team," Mateschitz told AUTOSPORT. "It will be announced after Budapest.


"But Ricciardo did an excellent job at Silverstone, and [Jean-Eric] Vergne was very good."


Raikkonen's management has been in discussions with both Lotus and Red Bull chiefs about what opportunities are available for next year.


Sources indicate that Raikkonen is keen to stay at Lotus in 2014, but is seeking guarantees that the outfit has the financial capabilities needed to keep up its push for victories.


That security will almost certainly rest on a major investment deal with Infinity Racing being sorted sooner rather than later, after team owner Gerard Lopez revealed that the situation was not as firm as had been previously indicated.


Lotus has won one race this year, and is one of the favourites for the victory at this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner believes that it is "too early" for Jean-Eric Vergne to step up to a seat with his squad.


"Jean-Eric is again demonstrating strong development and potential," said Horner.


"At this stage, it is probably too early for him, which is why we chose to look at Daniel in the test at Silverstone last week."


"He deserves a seat in Formula 1 and should he not be successful with the Red Bull seat then it would make logical sense for him to continue with Toro Rosso," said Horner when asked by AUTOSPORT whether he would like to see Vergne have another year with the Red Bull junior team.


"He's six months behind Daniel in terms of F1 experience. He is still learning, still developing.


"We are in the fortunate position that we have got two drivers that have come through the junior programme, that have exemplary junior careers, that have both done fantastic jobs when they have had the chance in a Red Bull car at the young driver tests.


"They are both very capable drivers and both earned their seat in Toro Rosso on merit through the talent they have.


"That is obviously developing as they gather experience."

Pirelli had originally planned to bring their medium and hard compounds to Hungary, but after complaints from some teams - most notably Lotus - they have opted for soft and medium.

Thanks Pirelli. At least we know in advance that Lotus will dominate, Red Bull and Ferraris will fight over the minor places, and Mercedes will struggle (assuming the weather forecast is right). I guess the championship needed a bit more artificial intervention...

    • The cam I am actually putting in (a few posts up) is actually smaller than my current one. At least duration/overlap wise. All the chop stuff I hear just sounds like an engine running badly, because it is. I then envision driving it around in 1st gear and being massively sad about it bucking to the beat of said chop. There is an idle video of someone with a similar cam floating around the internet, but mine is a custom cam (so is his) so it'll never be the same, plus the fact exhausts are entirely different. What I want to do is put some bullet mufflers/race mufflers in to replace a couple sections straight pipes that currently replace the two extra cats that I don't need. But this is even further down the line!
    • I can tell you now, when the bracket that the little hydraulic ram attaches to snaps, with a subframe, and V8 from an AMG C63 on it, it sounds like someone letting shotgun off right beside you. It leaves your ears ringing, and a huge thankfulness that you never ever put a body part under something heavy that's only supported by a hydraulic lift...
    • Still not a guarantee fix. I used a high quality butyl-mastiq (the black goo that's not really silicone nor polyurethane, same stuff they use from the factory that just spreads out like melty cheese), and I still get lots of water on both sides of the trunk when raining or washing the car. I also suspect the factory spoiler rubber gasket might not be sealing well, so I'm thinking of adding a thin layer of grey silicone around the bolt holes on both sides and see if that's where it also leaks from. The biggest issue is that these cars don't come with a drain hole on each side like other coupes and hatchbacks.
    • I hate it, but maybe he could paint it Monster jam style and call it...godzilla?
