Vitaly Petrov's chances of securing another season with Caterham are fading as his manager revealed talks have stalled.

"At the moment there are a lot of unanswered questions," his manager Oksana Kosachenko told R-Sport. "There are too many nuances that need to be sorted out.

"We're at the waiting stage, which is linked to the team's restructuring. We completely depend on them and can't speed anything up."

As for rumours that Petrov has found new backing giving him the edge in the race for the second seat, Kosachenko says this is not true.

"So far, we haven't managed to find new sponsors.

"Where do journalists get this information from? I'm a journalist myself and I know very well how this can just pop into someone's head."

Barely a week after he strongly hinted that the Nurburgring would host the German GP, Bernie Ecclestone has revealed that it is not yet a done deal.

"We have got a German Grand Prix but we don't know where it is going to be," he is quoted as saying by ESPNF1. "We have got the race pencilled in. It's on the calendar. We can decide it once the season has started."

When asked if the race will take place at the Nurburgring, Ecclestone replied: "No. The trouble is that the people that used to be there have gone. They haven't got enough money. So we will see."

Ecclestone also dismissed reports he confirmed the Nurburgring, who is alternating with Hockenheim, during an interview last week.

"I said to Reuters that I was talking to them about trying to do something," he said. "I don't know what is going to happen with Nurburgring. That's what we are trying to sort out."

Caterham are due to confirm their second driver for the 2013 Formula One season any day now, according to team boss Cyril Abiteboul.

"There are different options. One is someone who he (Pic) can learn from," Abiteboul toldEastern Daily Press.

"Another, more radical, is to accept the fact 2013 is a transition year we use to continue building the team before a period of greater stability in 2014, when a lot of other things in the package will change.

"Both types are out there, and we are close to making a decision."

Ferrari pushing to get Jules Bianchi a race seat in F1 in 2013

Ferrari is still pushing to help secure its young driver Jules Bianchi a race seat in Formula 1 this year, as Force India continues to stall on its decision.

Bianchi is believed to be going up against Adrian Sutil for the second seat at Force India alongside Paul di Resta, but the team remains undecided on its plans.

The Frenchman was Force India's third driver last year and a possible promotion to a race seat has been linked with the possibility of the Silverstone-based outfit switching to Ferrari engines from 2014.

Although Force India has remained silent on its plans, Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali said at his team's Wrooom media event at Madonna di Campiglio on Wednesday that his outfit was still working on landing Bianchi a race seat.

"Jules is part of our Driver Academy, and we are trying to find a solution for him," explained Domenicali.

"Last year he was the third driver of Force India, and we are trying to find a solution so he can grow and show his worth. But I have no further information."

Force India is scheduled to launch its new car on February 1, and di Resta has already had his seat fitting.

The team's customer engine contract with Mercedes-Benz comes to an end this year, and it is considering its options for the move to new 1.6-litre V6 turbo power-units for 2014.

Mark Webber and Kimi Raikkonen will be working with new race engineers this season after swapping personnel.

Ciaron Pilbeam, who has worked with Webber since the Aussie joined Red Bull back in 2007, is heading over to Lotus where he will be taking the role of chief race engineer.

Meanwhile, Raikkonen's 2012 engineer Simon Rennie will be heading in the opposite direction to Red Bull where he'll team up with Webber.

A Red Bull statement said: "We can confirm that Ciaron Pilbeam has left the team to take up a new position with Lotus.

"We're pleased to welcome Simon Rennie to Red Bull Racing who will be Mark Webber's race engineer."

    • Alright guys, I've got good odds the motor survives due to a majority of spare parts. Who's taking bets on clutch, who's on transmission, and who's go diff? Happy to also take bets on if it still overheats in traffic or not 😛     Car looks amazing by the way. I've never been a fan of R34 rears, so really, I don't think any body kit etc solves that for myself, but the front end looks amazing!
    • As an ex-skyline owner Going off how these things are now "modern classics", I would keep the twins and just "refresh" bits that are required for reliable power and have a car you can take out for a cruise whenever you get the itch As a idiot who cannot leave things alone Going deep into the "rabbit hole" is a easy thing to do, as previously mentioned, once you start it becomes a slippery slope, wirh lots of supporting mods, and possibly rebuilds, and unless you have a bottomless pit of funds, the car can spend most of its life sitting in the garage,  broken, waiting for parts, or building more funds For a classic like a R32 GTR Basically, a reliable OEM+ refresh, that isn't a broken garage queen, is alot better than a car that you build, then break, then fix, then break again And it isn't just the engine you need to worry about, these beasties are getting on in age, and all parts are getting, and have got, expensive, the days of picking up cheap replacement engines and other driveline parts are well and truly over The funds not spent on going a single with quality parts, and with all the other other bits required to make it happen, could be spent on refreshing alot of other parts A wise man once said "If you cannot afford 2 GTR's, you cannot afford 1", I also believe he said this about 20 years ago when you could pick up a clean R32 GTR up for around $20k My advice for a R32 GTR (the one and only true Godzilla in my mind) is to think holistically about the whole car, the body, the power train, the suspension, the brakes, and the driveline SAU is a wealth of knowledge with decades of Skyline experience,  from stock, to OEM+, to modified to varying degrees, to full on or weekend or dedicated racecars, as well as full on money pits that rarely leave their garage Treat the old girl nice and give her what she deserves, you are a lucky man to own such a classic car
    • For that price you could buy the hypergear turbo (big fan as I run one) and the Haltech ECU..
    • +1 for the Elite 2500. Get some new knock sensors while you are at it (pretty cheap), look up the TAARKS Nissan knock sensor kit. You may also want to get new coils (R35gtr) while your at it (assuming your on stock ones), as they are a liability. Mine started right up and idled fine on the base map. Also go MAP over MAF, as said above, Haltech make this super simple right out the box. Another fanboy of DBW here, Outsider Garage from your neck of the woods make some nice conversion gear for the R33 (that’s where I got some of my gear from).
    • Nvm ignore this I read it wrong
