AGE
I reckon well done to who ever builds a skidpan close to the Melbourne. I'm still baffled why DECA themselves haven't extended their venues into bigger and better ones, closer to the CBD. With the amount of car clubs and people wanting to have fun in their cars nowadays, a well run and well sorted venue could be a license to print money. joeyjoejoejuniorshabadoo
this... a skidpan in the inner suburbs in theory could pay for itself almost instantly, however in reality the pigs would just end up sitting out the front looking for easy defects and the place would go broke also I have no idea about insurance costs for such a venue (would be HUGE) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/414725-like-deca-wish-it-were-closer-wish-no-longer-new-skid-pan-in-melbourne/page/2/#findComment-6657687 Share on other sites
Odium
Yeah I'd imagine that DECA's yearly insurance is probably lower than a dedicated skids place, because it is primarily a driver training (trucks etc) facility. and doesn't AASA cover the club itself for insurance? Because you'd never get it past local council if you say it's a skidpan. This whole country has gone "hoon mad", Gov't and Council alike are not interested in driver training at all. Different story if you say it's for forklift training and then use it for something else (until you get that knock on the door of course). Drag Tag's skidpan is the perfect example of what happens (unfortunately), and 24months down the track i doubt that community attitude has changed for the better. Sad times unfortunately - but there is mounting angst in the car world at all the bullshit - perhaps if things get much worse people might unite and start seriously protesting it all. If I had time - I'd bloody well drive it myself Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/414725-like-deca-wish-it-were-closer-wish-no-longer-new-skid-pan-in-melbourne/page/2/#findComment-6657887 Share on other sites
SS8_Gohan
as far as i know, this will predominantly be a training venue with additional training 'facilities' in addition to the skid pan. motorsport will probably be a small part of the revenue i would think, and insurance for that would be similar setup to DECA i would think, cams/aasa - don't know how it works for the other 'training' side of things... Sunkist
TBH i'm surprised all race tracks haven't been closed by the gov't Tbh I'm surprised the government hasn't opened more. All profits would go to government More people of the road and on a track - dream boats don't kill other dream boats They would sit cops outside to give everyone anal - all profits to the government Tbh it would be a very revenue effective business for the government Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/414725-like-deca-wish-it-were-closer-wish-no-longer-new-skid-pan-in-melbourne/page/2/#findComment-6659619 Share on other sites

McCoy
Hey guys, I was pointed to this thread my a member here. Just so you know, the skidpan has full council approval for driving training just like that of DECA and will opperate in like manner. During the week it will be used for truck and bus training, during the weekends it will be used for cars just as DECA is right now. joeyjoejoejuniorshabadoo
I think the question on everyone's lips is will there be a broken pipe and a permanent puddle, just like deca? McCoy
No broken pipes, but there is an abundant water supply if required. There is a slight gradient of 2° across the skid pan to allow for water to gently roll down the full face of the pan rather than having some areas dry yet other areas pooling water. It's a well designed driver training centre. Light's are to be the next thing fitted ( evening skid pan work anyone? ) which is something different I think. While it's true there is no highway circuit like that of DECA attached, there are plenty of race tracks around VIC for those wanting to participate in motorsport in an environment like a circuit. Sandown being the closest to Melbourne. However, unlike DECA it's not a 2 hour drive from Melbourne for those wanting to have some fun and sharpen driver skills in a safe environment like a skid pan.
