Video Camera - Help

Not sure where to post this....

I was up at Mallanats on sat doing it with my bro, and a few cars had stuck on video cameras.

Thought it was a cool idea and something i could get him for xmas.

But whats good and whats not?

Have been to a few places and have had sales people saying contradicting things to each other etc.

So after people who use / have one, any advince? decent brands etc etc?

Go-Pro's are what most people use i think. TypeVU had one for sale a cpl weeks ago, maybe PM him and see if he still has it

Get yourself a new GoPro Hero 3.

Built in WiFi so you can control it from your phone, high resolution, and you get the suction cup mount included with it. $400 from JB, less than that online.

Good value, I'll be getting myself another one shortly.

older GoPro's are just plain shit, GoPro HD Hero 3 has much better audio and video but still probably not as good as the Contour +2 or even the older Contour camera's but Contour's almost always cost more in Australia

I've got a Contour HD, the only issue I have with it is the mic, its really bad at wind noise, bought if from a ebay shop, was only $350 with extra's, compared to paying around $400 in a normal shop for just the camera, if you look around you and wait for a decent deal you will save a lot of money

Is the go pro black worth the extra over the silver?

I dont need all special features just for basic in car stuff?

Totally depends on your budget, and what youre going to do with the footage.

GoPro and Ion are about the same, both have wifi, both are roughly the same money.

GoPro always beats Contour and the new Sony in reviews, but never seen a comparison with Ion.

RaceRecall also do a nice Radcam which has better audio, but not as versatile.

You're always going to have a trade off, mine is Radcams inside the car and GoPro external, but Ion is as good.

Buy what fits your budget.

lots of these types of camera's struggle with sound quality when out side a car on a race track. the ion is much better then the gopro for sound, but similar for video quality.

how ever gopro can be solved by lining the case with a tissue
