M35 Starter Motor Need Asap In Sydney

Hi All,

By chance does anyone have a spare /surplus M35 starter on hand. I am need of one asap if possible to keep the car on the road to do the school run in the mornings etc. Im located in Sydney. Battery is in good nick and is less than 12 months old and is rated at 660cca and load tests fine. I can hear the solenoid engage but the primary winding does not work.maybe brushes ,maybe shot winding or worn out commutator, not sure as yet.

Issue has been sorted.thanks. Car is back on the road. I managed to source a secondhand unit for $200. For reference. Hitachi unit, oem part number 23300-AL600 is the starter that fits our VQ25 engines.

That's cheap, I paid $350 for my last one from a wrecker. All VQ25 ones are the same, so you can get one off a DD.

I have a spare if anyone else needs one. Good to see you could get it fixed same day, there must be more and more parts getting around now.

Took the old non working starter apart last night for inspection. The brushes were completely shot. The residue from the worn away brushes was all built up on and around the commutator and surrounding brush holder assembly, which would not of been any good for trying to energise each separate winding on the armature. Anyway i ordered online this morning a new genuine brush assembly [Amayama.com] for $39.00 + ship, I should have it within a week or so. part number 23378-EN20A [old number] and replacement number 23378-0M300 http://www.amayama.c...h/?q=233780M300

The commutator was a little worn, so a quick clean up on the lathe should see it sorted and within working tolerance. I should have this unit overhauled and ready for service [a spare] in a couple of weeks. Thinking about the subject, most of the M35 in OZ are of similar age and would guess that more starter motors will start to fail. time will tell. Can i suggest that buying a replacement brush assembly would be cheap insurance and minimise the time the car is off the road. My starter began to turn slower and slower for a couple of days before it finally failed.

You could always be the "go to guy" for the next person who needs a reco'ed starter motor; maybe arrange a changeover service, and help the community.

Work in a fair margin to make it worthwhile; everyone wins!

Just a thought.

The Core is the hard part to find. New genuine from Nissan, prices are as follows. http://www.amayama.com/search/?q=233106N160 . I wonder if the core "Armature Assembly" is common in other hitachi starters. Part number is 23310-6N160 I will have a hunt around and see what I can dig up.

      My extinguisher mounted like this unscrewed a little (Maybe from the chair sliding forward) and dumped a bit of white on my mats. I'll need to get a more narrow one for future.

      I totally couldn't do the whole kids taking up my life thing! 😮 I find it bad enough doing 45 hours in 4 days, and then fitting normal adulting life into the other 3 with no kids! As for my mates race cars, they're AMG C63 setup for production racing. The original is what has just been stripped and a brand new shell built. The original is then going away to have some panels straightened, then it will be put back together again. Then there's a third that will shortly head off to have a roll cage put in, then build it up too. And potentially a fourth to be built too... Oh, and he has two Renault Clio D class production cars, ha ha. And when he's not racing them in the Australians and QLD production championships, he's been racing one of Chaz Mostert's Lamborghini's in GT4. They just won GT4 at the 12 hour in the Lambo. We're pushing to finish the new AMG as it has its first round (and potentially its first shakedown/outing) in under w weeks for Round one of QPC, and that round is really the shakedown to make sure it's all good for the Bathurst 6 hour, which I'll be at too. Ha ha ha Working on my project is different to his, I slowly tinker and work ways to make things happen on a shoe string budget. Hes in a good position that he has a massive workshop full of parts and tools, ha ha. He also looks after me. When his air compressor died, he just needed it working, so bought himself a new one and gave the old to me. Sand blaster unit too, and a 20t pressing. And pretty much all the shelving in my shed too as he upgraded all of his (the stuff he gave me is the expensive black Bunnings heavy duty stuff)!   I enjoy working on his stuff. No decision paralysis, and anything that's needed parts wise is just there. Plus, then I get to be hands on at the track in real racing, not just club day stuff.

      I definitely agree with you there - I never click on content for cars I would never ever be able to get or compete with/against/be seen next to. Seeing a MX5 compete with a FD RX7 will make people upset though, for sure. Even in 2.5L Turbo form which is pretty grass roots. (or at least as grass roots as classic cars can be) Yes we're all classic car owners now.
