11.6 @119mph - Not a bad effort, was expecting mid to high 11's...

You're kidding me right! that's awesome jack, well done. To add salt to the wounds, I take it this was on street tyres aswell.

With the 8K launches, what sort of Clutch/Flyweel are you running? I've noticed since I fitted my Ogura Twin Plate and Lightened Flywheel, normal driving off the line is so much easier, and it doesn't bog down.

I could be wrong, but wouldn't some cam options help with the lower to mid power?

Either way jack, you've got (11sec) bragging rights.. gotta be happy with that

summoner - ready for battle!!!!! hehe

meshmesh - sounds sweet, let me know exactly when and I'll try and organise it... Do I hear a challenge?!?!? j/k

Well guys just got back from Calder tonight and if dyno figures aren't your cup of tea, well then heres the results form the 1/4 mile:

11.6 @119mph

Not a bad effort, was expecting mid to high 11's...

One thing I noticed was how hard it was to launch the bastard!!!! With the standard turbos I would normally launch it at 6.5 - 7k rpm, and it would more or less braek traction but tonight, it was bogging down hard off the line at about 7k rpm, and couldn't better a 12.3 all night, with 2.2 60ft times!!!!!

This became too frustrating so there was not much else to do than hit 8k rpm and side step the clutch!!!! and presto, an 11.9 followed by an 11.6 on the very last run...

Obviously being the 10cm version of the T517Z's, it wouldn't get boost off the line at around 7k rpm, causing it to bog down to 2k rpm, which resulted in 2.2-2.4 60ft times...

So therefore I might have to do something about the lag, not too keen on 8k launches, maybe adjust cam gears for low end power, or even change dump pipes, just to get the turbos boosting earlier....

nice effort jack, but still gotta be in the back of your mind you just spent approx $8k to go .5 sec faster and you also lost some driveability and now have a car thats faster, but i doubt its nicer to drive that a stock 11 sec factory turbo car.

ive had from 268kw @ the wheels with stock turbos and 450kw@ the wheels with big twins and everything in between and the stock turbo car was the best to drive by a long shot.

Simon- yeah, was done on street tyres (Hankook Ventus K104 265/35/18), and didn't touch anything since i picked it up from Ice, same boost, BP Ultimate fuel....

I've got a Daiken Exedy twin plate (push type), really bites hard!!!

I think your right, might have to look into cams, or even the Trust front pipe with separate waste gate pipe, might bring boost on earlier!!!!

C'mon why don't you take your car to calder one night, wanna see what she runs!!!!

Dean- yeah spent that money to go 0.5 sec faster, but what happens when I run 1.7 bar with '****tail' fuel and more timing??? Might have spent the money, but its still not at full potential just yet....

As far as driveability, the car hasn't changed one bit, the idle is the same, the clutch is the same, just the lag is the difference.... not sure what your referring to there....

driveability, i was refering to lag. even if u lean on it some more, u will probably only get a few more tenths. going fast is what its all about but, there is always a compromise.

for me its all or nothing now, i like standard turbo cars. fast but reliable and nice to drive or all the way with a big single or twins and 400+ at the wheels.

dont think i will ever do a small twin mod again.

Well Dean you've had that many GTR's with every bloody possible turbo upgrade so I see that your probably over it now!!! I see where your coming from, but for me its the first time so its all a 'learning experience'....

When I bought these turbos, I wasn't aware of the two sizes, so basically just had to do with what I had....

If you decide to go for the trust front pipes, I might buy some aswell with ya. Dunno where you plan on getting them from, but Brent from Nengun has them for around $1100-1200 landed, Maybe he'll do us a better deal for 2 sets?

I'm waiting for ICE to do some final touches to tuning, then I'll take it. Also waiting for a mate to finish his STI 03, should be pushin 250kw at all four, so we can run em. PS: I want to run to my cousin who's got the new Suzuki GSX-R 1100 or 1000 "dunno the exact model" he reckons it does flat 10's?? would they let us run with a bike?

Vspec, (or is that Dean? from UPI)

Weren't you running these turbo's on one of your GTR's? considering jack's situation what would you recommend to fix the problem?

yes they do run 10flat mesh mesh!

yep its dean upi.

i have never tried to rectify the lag issues with my t517-10s, but i was running hks dumps aswell.

i really liked my t517-8s, but thought the 10s were to much like 2540s which i didnt like.

yep jack, ive spent too much money on these suckers and im a little over it. i was just thinking about all the turbos ive used, check this out for a list.

2530s, 2540s, t517z-8, t517z-10, td05s, kkk26 twins, t78, ive also been involved with a few others running t04, t88 and apexi ax5360s.

i loved the ax5360s the best, if i was upgrading they would be my choice followed by, 2530s and t517-8s.

im trying to do a deal on another r33 at the moment , if it works out im likely going with one of bens garret singles, something pretty small though.

Simon- definetly be in for the 'group buy' on those front pipes, i was looking at getting them from nengun too, might drop Jason from greenline an email aswell....

Looking forward to seeing you run, all I can say is don't expect to get the best time first go!!! Although with 2530's you might not have to launch it as hard as me.....

As far as running against your mate with the bike, make sure he's right next to you in line, and then ask the track marshall to run together....

the apexis were awesome, i had never driven a car with them before, ben tuned the car and we fitted a motec.

power was nothing special as the customer wasnt interested in all out grunt as he wanted a relaible track car, i think around 320kw.

it was 2 years ago now, but remember jumping in the car and thinking damn, this car feels like it has the response of stock turbos, off the top of my head i reckon full boost around 4000rpm

Sweet, sounds like a good package, was looking at gettin these but didn't like the 4k price tag....

Good effort Jack, well done mate.

As you noticed, it gets a little harder from here on. The car is harder to launch, because you have more power and a very grippy clutch. The only thing that will give now is the traction which will hurt your 60 footers.

With my stock GTR i could get 1.7, 1.8 60 footers very frequently, now it's a challange to nail them.

If you can scan a couple of slips, post them up.

Cheers Emre, will scan the time slips later on when I get back from work....

Yeah noticed how hard it is to launch it, my best 60' was 1.82, when I did the 11.6....

What boost/fuel/power were you running when you got an 11.4???

1.4 bar pump fuel got me a best of [email protected] mph. 60 foot was 1.73

Best mph on pump fuel is 124.5.

How is Calder these days. I always say to myself "will never come to this shithole ever again" but end up going again. When i was there last, i managed only 4 runs and theye were all over an hour apart.

    • Yeah 4wd (boosted) has a recess in the firewall for the booster, and 2wd is flat - the example in the link shows the flat surface. When you deleted the booster, did you just attach the factory slave cylinder directly to the recess in the firewall with no adaption?
    • Yes, but no. You need to keep the mating surfaces bare (ie the flat faces where the caliper and upright pads touch the dogbone) and also the internal threads will remain bare (unless there are no internal threads - do they use nuts on all the bolts?). So you can slow down obvious external corrosion, but not all of it. Anodising would be required to provide decent protection to the alloy, but I'm not actually sure if you should anodise something that is all about the strength. Anodising does reduce strength significantly. Like, up to 50% on some alloys for high thickness coating.
    • Thanks   does painting on aluminium work or stop them from corroding?
    • 'Sgot nothing to do with them being Japanese. The climate in the north of Japan has similarities to the UK - the cars are made in the knowledge that they have snow and salt, and they rot there. Cars made in the US rot like buggery in the US. British cars have always rotted regardless of the weather. They will rot indoors in a climate controlled bubble! The brackets are not unsafe yet, but they will get that way. They may well corrode where the bolt threads are in contact and the bolts could just jump out without warning.
    • So unsafe would you say now?   little bit of has come off, guess road salt is a nightmare for Japanese car. Mx5 here have a well known issue or rotting
