Ronin 09
So of course it's really difficult to diagnose a drivetrain noise, but it's a noise that I've found in a few cars (old ones at that!) and someone might be able to diagnose. When in a higher gear (e.g. 4th) and pulling low RPM (e.g. 2,000), there is a vibration that sounds like a lowish frequency clacking noise - when low rpm and loaded up. I'm not sure what it could be - there gearbox is brand spanker (under 10,000kms), nismo super coppermix (under 10,000kms), the tailshaft was rebalanced when the gearbox went in. I would assume that the tailshaft bearing was inspected at the same time. Thoughts? Mitcho_7
You sure it's not just normal clutch chatter? My Jim berry clutch does it when you are in too high of a gear at a low rpm. Shuyin
My coppermix does the same thing. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/415427-drivetrain-noise-difficult-to-diagnose-but-maybe/#findComment-6667398 Share on other sites
GTRsean
Just vibrations at low RPM transfered through crank to drivetrain. Nothing to worry about. Nissan reduced the noise issue with dual mass flywheels in the R34GTR and s15 silvia's etc, but we all just rip em out and put in performance setups anyway Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/415427-drivetrain-noise-difficult-to-diagnose-but-maybe/#findComment-6667453 Share on other sites
SiR_RB
Drop it down a gear = noise gone Happens to me when I'm in 4th doing 40ish kmh Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/415427-drivetrain-noise-difficult-to-diagnose-but-maybe/#findComment-6668055 Share on other sites
Ronin 09
thanks for the suggestions fellas - it's difficult to explain to a workshop because it's something the owner tends to hear but difficult to fault. cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/415427-drivetrain-noise-difficult-to-diagnose-but-maybe/#findComment-6684799 Share on other sites
