My R32 GT-R lands in the next few months from Japan, It's been sitting in a Car Yard for 8 months untouched.

I have a fairly apt mechanical knowledge, I can with some help from a friend change timing belts - adjust the timing, oil, oil filters.

So basically I have an R32 GT-R coming off from the docks that hasn't been touched for 8 months, provided the engine doesn't need some work what is there to be done?

I'm thinking.

  • Oil
  • Oil Filter
  • Timing Belt
  • Compression Test
  • All other oil (Differential ETC...)

Any to add? What are your thoughts?

Thanks Gary.

Change the battery, tyres will be rooted if the cars sat there for 8 months without moving, change the fluids, you may aswell change every single fluid and oil in the car for compleate peice of mind, i mean its a gtr!, give it a little lovin

Arent you scared that a car that looks that low might get the kit smashed by some useless warfies that just dont care?

Sumo

Welcome to the world of importing cars, this rarely happens the wharfies are actually very good, it's only a handful that resort to thievery.

This is my friends FC, it was in the same yard in Japan as my GT-R, it is lower then my GT-R

thats a picture of it in sydney and you can barely fit your foot underneath it, came off the boat without a scratch, it's a roll on - roll off system and Kiwi gives me insurance as well.

More than likely you'll find the Japanese owner has decided to forego some routine maintenance. Also alot of suspension bushes and so forth will need replacing, waterpump, oil pump, belts, wiring... all little issues which will come into play :(

Btw, your oil sender may need replacing :D

Aside from being illegal to use the tyres that are on it anyway, why will the tyres be "rooted" if they haven't moved in 8 months? Presuming they aren't flat.

ya, wasnt thinking, dont tyres get flat spots if there left in the same postition for ages?

Ummm NO....

They can become hard due to going through heat cycles and sitting dormant but that usually takes longer than 8 months...I would be investing in some new tyres though...

Other things to consider are plugs replacement, and oil/engine flush BEFORE putting in new oil, and a good coolant flush, ie through the heater hoses etc...

    • I don’t really have any ideas how to set the timing on the CAS 😂, sounds like the top, sounds like it maybe misfiring as well as ticking,  got the box sorted 😌, must of been a air bubble on the clutch side
    • Use a 2' length of hose (that's 2 foot, not 2 inches) as a stethoscope to localise the source of the ticking. From cam covers? From exhaust or turbo manifold gasket? From injectors? From lower down in the engine? Etc. Use a timing light to set the timing. Put Redline Lightweight Shockproof in the box. It's not the very best thing for the box, but it will take a box that refuses to engage a gear with other oil, and make it engage a gear. I had to put it in when I installed the R33 box I have in my car. It would not select ANY gear when running. Smurf jizz made it work. That was >10 years ago and I still use it. I'm stuck with it now. Failing that - rebuild the box.
    • Well done Duncan. The fuel tank bulkhead lid is also in great condition (some of mine were stuffed). These are now out of production and good ones like that are becoming hard to come by.
    • Wow that's a steal, you've done well there.
