Took the actuator off and found the wastegate is fouling on something, totally jammed open now.

Thats obviously why it was boost surging.

JJR split dump needs to go to the dump. Worst fitting thing ever!

Maintenacne on 34 this arv

New plugs, filters, oils, injectors cleaned, degrease, tyre pressures, finally a suds and then brazillian :D

Well not quite to plan - farkin RB25's. Nothing is as easy it could be. :verymad:

Give me the RB26 any day!!

To change plugs almost had to strip the bloody rear of the engine bay. Started late and ran out of daylight.

Coz I did on my drive way I have to finish it off tomoz. Just got to put all the piping, electricals and covers back on.

Got the shits and broke the valley cover in half  Went to time out

how do you do it, how do you put up with it.

No wonder there is no valley cover or cover on most RB25's.

To change plugs you have to start by taking off

  • strut brace
  • neo cover
  • unplug all the wire connections at the back (4or5)
  • undo the bolts on the cross over pipe
  • undo the hose clips
  • pull some hoses off front and rear
  • rotate the large hoses out of the way
  • undo the allenkey bolts on the valley cover
  • undo the bolts on the coil pack
  • remove the cool packs
  • remove spark plugs
  • and then reverse the proceedure

on an RB26 if you have a valley cover you disconnect ignitor (1clip), coil packs, plugs reverse order and DONE!!

Yeah get the oil filter off. o wait.

I have wondered about that with the whole NEO cover thing but it's still an adventure on a regular 25 nonetheless.

As there is no engine cover, there is no need to remove the strut brace but you have to...

1) disconnect 4 small hoses from the crossover pipe (for charcoal canister)

2) disconnect vac line to BOV

3) hose clamps on BOV & crossover pipe (IC pipe and Throttle Body)

4) 2 bolts holding the crossover pipe + wiggle it out to remove

5) undo allen bolts holding valley cover & remove cover

6) unclip all 6 coil plugs

7) 2 bolts / coilpack & remove coil + remove Spark plug and replace + reverse coil removal

8) repeat step 7 another 5 times

9) put all the rest of the crap back together + double check it's all good

10) Goosfraba.

It's a pain but nice to know it's another 5 - 10000kms til you do it again.

Rob either you or the shop will receive a call in 5-10k Kms  I dont have the patience mate

This time I took a number of short (long) cuts. First time doing a RB25 - 4hrs :(

Hence broken valley cover, many droped coilpack bolts, much cursing and bark missing.

At least oil change was very easy. Took speshal care but still dropped sump plug in hot oil.

LoL - I drove around for 5hrs doing errands and being Taxi Mum - then decided it was time to do service.

Me not known for high I.Q

Edit: Oh and I broke 2 of the little hose things for the charcoal Canister

If Needed... Twould be my pleasure.

Not sure what the valley covers are like on 34s but if they are the same shape etc as 33s, I have a spare or 2 if you need 1.

LOL, your sposed to warm the oil up, not get it hot and yeah, them sump plugs are slippery little suckers.

Much fun to be had!

Will PM pic of my "broken" one. Just need to find north and south piece - lol

Yes Do. ^^^

Put my boot lid liner in that I finally managed to acquire. Looks so much better than the underside of a boot lid.

Now I just have to decide whether or not to get the Boot lid it was attached to:

A) painted to match my car so I can have 1 boot with spoiler and 1 without...

or

2) sell it.

    • I’ve got one on mine and it’s fine,
    • No, you don't want to plug the vacuum line, as that will turn that side of the booster into an air spring and probably make it feel worse. I'm not saying that the GTR master itself doesn't need a booster. I haven't paid attention to the GTR one to know what size it is cf the non-GTR ones. But when you think about it - they have to do the same job, which is to move a little slave piston a few mm to do what it is supposed to do, and that final action is the same on all the cars. So, it is very unlikely that the GTR MC is any different than the others, because it has the same pedal stroke and the same output requirement. The booster just makes it feel easier. I'd suggest you probably have an actual hydraulic problem. It's totally common on these old shitboxes.
    • Ye, in terms of bolting up the "Conversion" from a GT to a GTT is effectively "Use GTT parts for everything" Except the subframe itself, because you won't want a HICAS/4WS subframe. Remember your ABS system will be different too, thanks to GT being the S15 3 sensor system, instead of the R34 4 sensor system for wheel speed. I do not know how people get this to work given R34 diffs do not have a provision for an ABS sensor (they are on the tone wheels of the axles). I assume***** people use S15 gear/R34NA forever when they realize this - Or they convert it to a rear diff/axles that are R33 style which I presume has the singular speed sensor on the diff itself, but then you have to wire it all in and...and... and...
    • Foreshadowing was never so easy.
    • The ones in brackets are the first stages of tightening. I usually aim for the middle of the range. They give a range because it's actually not that critical to hit exactly the right bolt tension. Enough is enough, and too much is too much, and the range given is inside that range. Half of the bolts in the suspension are problematic for putting a torque wrench on anyway, so just get done up to mechanic tight  and spanner checked a week later.
