Will 17" rims fit over the brakes on an R34 GTR?

I'm after a spare set of wheels to put on the car for wheel alignments etc or maybe with some race tyres fitted.

I've just had the standard rims (18") repaired/repainted and don't want to knock them about.

Can anyone recommend some cheap rims I could purchase to replace the stockers for wheel alignments etc?

regards

Andrew

Thanks for your reply Maxx,

I suspected as much but that gold paint (on the callipers) had me fooled.

the brake of R34 and 33 are the same, so 17" rims should fit yr car nicely.

check out those buddy club P1 in GB section, pretty cheap for such high quality light weight rims.

or go for 33 GTR wheels

The gold R34 GTR brembo calipers are not the same as the R33 GTR brembo calipers. Alot of 17" wheels will NOT clear the front R34 GTR brembo brakes. You would be best off confirming the "X-factor" of the wheels before you buy them to make sure they will clear the brake calipers.

Have to see how I go - may have some cheap second hand wheels for sale in the next week or two!!

Why not just tell the wheel alignment place that you just had the wheels refurbished, and if they scratch them, they'll have to pay for repainting them?

Would be a lot easier than buying a whole new set of wheels just for wheel alignments!!

interest to know what's the different between R33 & R34 GTR brake instead of color.

i do see them real in my hand they are the same.

Good theory if you live in Sydney and have numerous wheel alignment places to choose from. Theres one place within a 150km radius of where I live (central Tablelands NSW) which has the right gear to do a four wheel alignment and who I would trust to do it properly.

Yes, I have talked to them about the wheels being refurbished and that I didn't want them scratched etc. They were reasonably confident than they could do it without scratching them but wanted to check them first and woudn't do the job if they couldn't guarantee no scratches.

I've been thinking about getting a second set for track tyres anyway so thought I would kill two birds with one stone - hence my post.

I thought it was a simple question - thanks for your comments anyway.

    • Went looking at mine, reading off the tyre, presumably these are 1st week of 2003. Still hold air (I haven't had to pump them up in over 12 months!)     I couldn't quickly find the date on the front tyres, they were fitted around 2008 to the rims, so probably not quite as old, but they have a lot more dry rot cracks in them. Still hold air.
    • I am now intrigued to go check the dates on the tyres on my Skyline... We need a game of who has the oldest tyre still holding a car up, and successfully holding air (for longer than a 2 weeks I feel is successful air holding).   I feel your tyres may be beating mine
    • Ok, still waiting for a date to get the cams installed on the MX5, why so long, because MX5 Mania has received a few new sets of different cams with different specs for the MZR and are currently trialling them, and working out what is best for 2.5 "powers" with stock internals, in the end if I go bigger than the Kelford stage 1 cams I'll need to look at the valve springs  Hopefully I'll get the news on them next week As for the boot of the car getting fixed, I hopefully pick it up early next week, I was sweating on picking it up yesterday but, meh, it was not to be, so ne weekend cruising for me
    • Ok got some old tyres for you guys...my car has been sitting around un-driven for about 6 years now. I had it on the original rims with the shitty compliance tyres it got it with back in 2006, which were manufactured in 2004... Sidewalls eventually rotted and split open, obviously no air in them and the rims were holding the car up. Just swapped them with some 17" Work rims and tyres which are probably 10+ years old too but at least holding air
