I know this a Skyline/cage sight but......

(Joe, you'd be aware of this off the PSB site)

This Monday (24-05-04) Today Tonight are running a story on motorbike 'hoons'. They downloaded footage off the Perth Extreme site and intend to air it with 'expert' opinion being given by some wankers. Quotes include "They are loaded weapons ready to go off" "menaces to society" etc. You get the idea anyway.

As much as this won't interest you guys in the point of it's about motorbikes, the ramifications of this could be far reaching. SAUWA is a close group with high powered vehicles that enjoying pushing their cars to the limits, you know, driftin and stuff.

Who knows, the next story could be on SAUWA, probably unlikely but hey, it's a possibilty and this probably a bit of a warning that the sensationalising journos really don't care about the positives of group events but only focus on negatives.

Anyhows that's my 2 cents worth.

Have fun all :)

This will blow up in the car scene again when the SPR dvd/video is released. If your cars in any of the illegal footage they have i'd be asking for it to be removed.

The police use it as evidence to charge you with whatever you were doin wrong. hopefully in these scenes the SPR ppl were smart enough to bler number plates

it does go to show though that TT is real short on decent stories. Naturally the footage they show will be very selective as most of the stuff was done on dead end back roads.

It will be interesting viewing that's for sure, what they won't say is that most of theses guys are race riders, the group organises track days and workshops to improve skills.

exactly, we all fall under into the same group

anything happening to bikes we should take as much notice of since, as said, it's 'broad' enough to encompass imports

Sorry guys, I don't agree! While I do apprechiate the notice and interset in wellbeing of our club and drivers. I have been to some fast and respected cruises with selected participants. We all have fun but how we behave, as a club should not be mentioned.

There are those of us that appreciate an art of owning a Skyline. Hence SAUWA!!!

I love my ride; I respect the club rules and do not accept a term "Perth Extreme".

So don't affiliate us with statements like those, as there are others that read stuff on these forums. It is harmful. Again it comes to the language used.

So lets be mindful of such comments. I respect bike riders but dare I say that when you go for a bike licence you are told to ride defensively. Not aggressively mad. There is a cult to this image of patriots. I.e. An art of speed. Movies such as Gt40 run through Paris streets, the Z350 in Prag City .... Getaway_in_stockholm.mov do a search on the net guys.....driven by professionals and recorded on the pro equipment.....I say not armatures. Not everybody knows how to drive/ride. I don't have to say no more.

By saying this you've just said we break the law on cruises with "selected participants"...

?? Perth Extreme is not a term - it's a bike club man..

Again.. ?? you've just taken the same view as the public on modd'ed cars - a nice generalisation there..

I'm trying to work out what you're actually trying to say here Sexila...

Cam just trying to say and look at the quote ...from PSIKO....That just saying the things like that make you look like the oldies want you to, dangerous speed freaks.......

Lets be diplomatic about all this, and what is this "WE" business? hheehhe :)

Lets not attach adjectives to other people as we are not all the same...

This is a fight I can't win I know, its the same discussion I had with few insurance people.

Try telling someone you are calm and respestfull of others when you are driwin an inport.

There is a saying "You are who you are with" And that is missleading isn't it.

Again I say lets use smart language. Iknow you ride a bike Cam and drive Skyline but that doesn't make you a Mad Max does it?

Bottom line what I am trying to say .....we speed YES. sometimes :)

Lets not advertise it!

Sorry if I have offended any bike riders ..... :)

    • Well, hydraulic lifters will get noisy if they are dirty/fouled in some way, and exactly how that manifests will depend on exactly what schmutz is where. There is a procedure on here somewhere for dismantling and soaking/cleaning them. Replacing them with new is about 50% of the work and about 5% of the money!
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy this is is a hydraulic lifter engine. Yea right i did not realise the lifters were supposed to be compressible while installed. I could push them down but i had to lean almost my while body weight on them.  I have never heard of a lifter/ lifters ticking only at hot idle and getting worse the hotter it gets. I have owned a few jdm cars with noisy lifters. This noise is slightly more subtle, it is more of a sharp gentle metalic tic than the solid and more loud tapping I've heard on lifters. I have used a metal rod, alloy tube, hose and stethoscope and could not find the source of the tick. But it appears to be loudest on the actual engine block behind the exhaust cam gear and next to the oil filter. I had mate (40 year old mechanic) go over it with me and he couldn't find it either..  Could it be a cam seal issue of some sort?  Cheers
    • This seems problematic and unlikely at the same time. Vanilla RB2Xs have hydraulic lifters. They do have "zero" clearance, but only when running with oil pressure inside them. When not running, you should be able to compress them and obtain heaps of clearance. RB26s and Neos have solid lifters. They should have ~0.3mm and ~0.5mm on the inlet and exhaust respectively. If they have zero clearance then bad things are happening. With nothing else being wrong, it would mean that the valves would be held slightly (ever so slightly) open when they are supposed to be closed and it should have all sorts of problems when running, caused by leakage in/out through the valves. Or, zero clearance can indicate severe valve seat recession. None of it is good. Have you used a piece of hose as a stethoscope to try to localise the noise?
    • Sorry for reviving an old post, but I'm having the same hot idle tick issue. Did anyone ever find out what it was?  I have checked/ replaced Injectors Coils checked Lifter clerance (is at zero) Checked Cam lobes Replaced exhaust gasket and studs Would appreciate any advice this is driving me nuts
