What you are asking is a bit wank factor

Which one is better? Hmmmm, same engine, one is slighlty lighter than the other, but the other has a 6 speed and different gear ratios.

Silly question to wank over.

34's to me are too over the top for me.

The only difference is looks, transmission, and suspension. The turbo in the 34 is also slightly different which doesnt even matter cause they produce the same power anyway. Its going to be your pride and joy so i reckon you should go look at all the cars yourself, look at a few 33s and 34s, and pick the one that speaks to you. Seeing as you like both, theres no other way to pick one.

I would of thought the other way around on this one:

The r32 gtr has a different bonnet, and wider front guards, and a different rear spoiler as opposed to the stock gts-t, it's a very noticable attribute

the r34 gtr again is the same, different bonnet, wider guards, etc

the r33 gtr on the otherhand looks the same to me personally as the gt25-t, that is to say that most gt25-t's are sporting the same rear spoiler, a smaller GTR badge in the grille, and in most cases have very similar body kits

Again, this is my opinion on the r33 GTR.

Yeah, I should have clarified, I see numerous R32s, R33s and R34s with the front bars and rear wings changed to make them look nicer if not also to make them look like GTRs, when I see a 32 with the slatted grill,GTR bar and the GTR rear wing, I have to take a longer look, maybe I'm just not familiar enough with them, same with the 34 GTRs. Front bar, skirts and Wing, and I'm looking closely to work it out. When I see a 33, even with a fresh face and GTR tail, they are very clearly (to me at least) not GTRs unless they go for the complete panel replacements and bulging rear fenders. I think the flared fenders are just more noticable.

But you're right, left stock, all look quite different. Although in saying that, I think the 33 still differentiates the GTR the best from the other models. I'll have to study them a little more.

To the OP. I was in this same situation some time ago and chose the R33 for a few reasons.

And this was the complete basis of the decision. In the areas where I get pleasure in an automobile, does the R34 add much if anything to that pleasure over the R33.

1 - The drive, not for me, I drove many and actually liked the feeling of the R33 better. Now I didn't get to test them on a track true, but as a mountain road blaster, they felt very much the same to me.

2 - The sound, I love a great sounding machine, and they both sound exactly the same to me from the fuel pump priming on start up, to the wonderful howl they make as the climb the tach.

3 - The appearance, mine is not a daily, it's a track and weekend car, and 80% of the time it's sitting in the garage. So I have to love looking at it, and as much as I've stared long and hard at the 34GTRs, I can't see the beauty in the R34's square proportions. Just a taste thing. Three years on and I still just stand there in the garage admiring the bulging arches and the tapered rear of the R33. That never fades.

4 - And this last one may be overly petty and self indulgent, but I don't much like the non GTR Skylines, and I like my GTR to be very clearly a GTR, for me, when I see 32's and 34's, I need to get close to the detail sometimes to define them as GTRs over non, however when see a 33, to me anyway, it is very clearly a GTR. Maybe because I own one, but they just look very different (read Wide and Fat) to their little brothers.

So in the end, I get in the car, and love everything about it, and when I see other GTRs on the road, I don't desire to have or own them. So I know I've bought the right one for me. Ask yourself some similar questions.

And I'm a little dissapointed with some of the responses on here to an OP simply seeking some advice from supposed car enthusiasts who, if they were, would be happy to discuss cars on any level, and above that, want to help out a fellow enthusiast.

Anyway, I guess it's easier for some on this particular forum to type an unuseful response rather than not type a response at all. Not sure how or what, but there must be something it adds to their day. But if that's what you need, go crazy.

Thanks for your detailed response man , I love the 34 and its my dream car , but I will obviously have to and will drive both before I see whether its worth two 33 gtr's :) As others have stated previously...may have to buy a 33 and use what I would of bought a 34 for for intake/exhaust/suspension & tuning mods.

Yes I was also quite confused with the flaming and hate towards this topic.Was just looking for opinions on which would be the better car from people who have driven both. It being a Skyline forum , I thought it would be ok to ask about the GTR. meh.....

No, don't use a GTR as a daily, it's too expensive to run, maintain and use as a daily, i'm doing that right now, and the fuel it takes for 500km is more than a v8 lol

As for the r34 GTR vs the r33 gtr, this simply comes down to you, however, financially, neither will be cheaper to own in the long run...it's an import

exactly what I was thinking. Its the opposite for me , I think the 32 gtr and 34 gtr are clearly distinguishable from their non turbo/single turbo counterparts where as the 33 with a GTR back and front spoiler make it look almost exactly the same

I honestly dont agree...but I will say that the r33 lowered with just some good wheels looks absolutely menacing...but i guess thats just my opinion. LOVE the aggressive bulges of the 33 :) (still dont get the whole "boat" thing)

Firstly, what's with all the flaming? The guy wants some input and preferably from people who've owned/driven either.

How are we meant to demonstrate to the general public that Skyline owners aren't hoons and terrors to society if we can't provide basic advice.

Appreciate that these threads do pop up on a semi-regular basis, but that's why the Internet is there.

OP, in relation to your post, if you're truly split, then drive a few and see which one speaks to you. You might drive a few 34s and think that they're the dogs bollocks, but then drive one particular 33 that you really love. Then your decision right there.

What is the car going to be used for, if your going to hit the track or the strip I would go for a nicely modded 33 as it will be well cheaper than a standard 34 and you will have cash to pay for tyres, brakes and other consumables, if you just want a daily then its what ever floats your boat.

Me, even if it was a daily, I would get a good late model 33 that someone has spend a shit load of money on "sensible" mods, maybe a rebuilt motor with good service history and engineered, it would still end up cheaper than a good 34 but be a much better performance package for less.

I agree with you here, however, instead of just a built motor, i'd be consider other aspects awell, too many people just rebuild a motor for horsepower, throw some rims on and lower it on coilovers, and then leave the rest, it's all well and good claiming to have plus 300kw, but considering even an r33 gtr is on average 15 years old, i'd be looking for a owner who's actually spent the money and time restoring the car's dynamics as in suspension bushings, upgrading the brakes for the power, etc

If you look for a car with this mindset, at least you'll be getting a car that genuinely had performance in mind as opposed to a dyno-queen/ drag strip car

I was in the same boat as you mate.

I ended up getting a 33 GTR for a couple reasons....

1. For around $20,000 less i got a 33 with a fully forged and rebuilt engine. plus a whole list of extras. over a 34 which would have been stock.

2. last GTR i had i ran a bearing in it. $10,000 for a rebuild. so the 33 i have has a forged engine, plus if it happned in the standard 34 i would have been trying to find cash.

3. saved $20,000 to tidy up and do a couple more mods on the 33.

4. to me driving they both felt pretty much the same. But i do prefer the 34 to look at.

5. 34s seem to be coming down in price in a hell of a hurry (same as what happened to 32s and 33s before they leveled off in price), more then 33s are right now. as they will drop to a point and stay stable while 34s still drop a bit. so buy a 33 save your cash and in two years should be better off....

But really at the end of the day i preffered driving a more modifed 33 GTR for $20000 less then the standard 34s i was looking at.
