Hey guys,

Just got my 120k major service (v35 coupe 03') and all is good except it needs new front and rear rotors. Main North Nissan in Adelaide gave me this quote to get it done:

Plus 250 labour

Is this reasonable? Seems kinda over priced but i could be wrong.

Also are there any other compatible options?

Fark no! It's not reasonable.

Contact gsl rallysport in the business section. The price should be better. Also will give better advice as to what suits you. It's not a hard job, if your semi handy and have some tools you should be able to knock it off in a morning.

The plastic arm wrest covers can be easily resprayed. Did mine and they came out really well, just lightly sand them down to the plastic and spray 1 coat of primer, 3-4 coats of a silver arcrylic or enamel paint and 3 coats of a clear coat.

Buy rotors from ebay and put them in yourself, shouldn't be too hard, plenty of diy's online.

I think i'm gonna respray the plastic arm wrest covers just not sure what the silver colour is, i might just respray both in the silver I find. Then i just have to search for a new wiper arm!

A quality set of DBA4000 series rotors will cost you about 1/3rd of what they're trying to charge and pads, hell, Ferodo 2500 series are great bang for buck and don't cost anywhere near $800 for a set of front and rear pads!

They don't call them "stealerships" for nothing, you know. :)

Besides which, while OEM is definitely the best option for engine and drivetrain components, when it comes to consumables such as brakes, aftermarket has always been the better option in performance, reliability and price.

Just to put it in perspectice, I am having the rear disc's on V35 sedan machined and new RDA pads put on right now, quote is for $235 (just for rears, but same for fronts) from my local mech,this includes labour.

Yeh that'd be great mate! I managed to take my door apart and change the window motor on it but i dunno if i trust myself to do the brakes without help!

So gsl responded with a much better price! Is it worth giving it a flush?

Will i need anything other than what he has quoted me below?

I not entirely sure what two of those parts are on the Nissan quote, but I can quote you on the pads and rotors. The pads I would recommend would be the QFM HPX pads, these are like an equivalent to a Bendix Ultimate in terms of performance as they are both rated to 550 degrees, but the QFM's don’t come with any of the downsides of the Bendix like high dust and rotor wear. I can supply these for $99 inc gst per set front or rear.

I can also supply the DBA 4000 series T3 slotted rotors for $207.90 inc gst per rotor front or rear.

Also if you need brake fluid, the fluid that we use and recommend is the Penrite RBF600 Dot 4 Racing Brake Fluid, which is $24.95 for a 500ml bottle, and rated to 310 degrees dry. Two bottles are usually required for a full car flush.

Yes you will definitely need to give it a flush, as God only knows how old and what type of fluid you currently have, and you cannot mix grades or types.

Nope, front and rear sets of pads, 4 x rotors and brake fluid are all you need.

Then you need a case (or 2 - one to drink on the job, one as payment for services rendered) of something good like Weihenstephan beer or Rekorderlig cider and a Saturday at my place to fit it all :)

There is of course the option of buying brake rebuild kits like below (which is also on my list of things to do) - but I have never done them before. Apparently they are quite easy to do.

Alright well i'm heading to mt gambier for a few weeks so ill order all the parts and then let you know! Another mate of mine said he will give me a hand too so this might be easier than expected, who need nissan ripping you off!

Haha a few cases seems like a fair trade to me!

We scuba dove Ewens Ponds again while we there there - amazing freshwater diving, but DAMN it is cold @ 11 degrees! 7mm wetsuits a necessity!

I thought my PCV valve had given up, so I went and ordered one from Main North Nissan - $68 and 3 weeks out of Japan. Told them to shove it.

Bought one on Ebay for $17 plus $11 express delivery from OC Infiniti in the USA and it was at my door in a week.
