Yeah if it has already been painted, there is not much you can do other than colour match it to the car, or buy a new one from Nissan. I personally like the unpainted raw plastic lips. But i guess that is all personal preference.

Yeah..... I agree with you. I prefer the original unpainted look too but I need to be disciplined with this car. I can't justify spending another $350.00 with no return. I'd rather put that money towards the painting of the wheels.

Bob.

I was lucky enough with my last car to have Duncan swap over the dash for me as the original had the treaded bubble.

Horrible job...... Like one big jigsaw puzzle.

I made sure I wasn't going to buy a car with the bubble this time. It was a deal breaker for me.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just saw it on Carsales Bob, it was 5 mins down the road, should have called a brother!

Sorry....... Are you referring to the car I bought or another one?

The ad shouldn't be on Carsales........

Bob.

Ok......... A bit of an update.

The car spent a week or so at Unigroup Engineering where Mark and Yavus tidied up the engine bay and tuned the car.

The first and second pic is a before and after of the engine bay.

The next pics are a tidy up of the stereo, dash and gear knob and boot surround.

The last pic shows the car with a set of Ford Falcon BA XR8 17" wheels. The 17" BBS wheels are at the painter getting repainted in the correct colour.

The car has gone to my panel show for all the cosmetic upgrades.

I want it back by the end of next week.

Just have to see how she goes.

Bob.

Looks great! How much did the engine bay tidy up set you back? They did a great job.

I can't specify an exact amount as it's all included in the overall bill.

They powder coated all the engine covers and the top of the radiator including new rocker cover badge.

Replaced all the blue silicon hoses with black ones.

Blacked out the intercooler hard pipe kit.

Swapped out the air box which for another which I had that was in better condition.

Made the OEM boost control solenoid look activated..... Which it isn't.

Then there are all new hoses belts, fluids etc etc........

Bob.

Those rims make my eyes bleed.......but I know its for a greater cause.......

Is that an OEM Radio ?? If so where did you get it??

Cheers

Yes mate........ Forum member PM'd me and I bought it.

They need a band expander to pick up all our FM channels and double diversity male and female connectors.

With the aerial being in the front screen, the reception can be a bit inconsistent.

It's great to have but I'm tempted to put the ADM Clarion unit in. It was what they fitted to the Aussie delivered cars straight out of the Maxima's.

That way it's period correct and looks stock but works a lot better.

Bob.

Looks good Bob, I'm hoping those wheels are temporary?

LOL........ Yes of course!

I needed something on the car whilst my original wheels are getting repainted.

I can see myself tinkering with these cars for years to come so a spare set of wheels will come in handy.

They only cost me $250.00 complete with tyres.

They are hacked up bad and I felt like a real bogan driving to the panel shop yesterday but these are the sacrifices we need to make.

At least the wheels and body work are being done at the same time with different repairers.

Bob.

    • Convert to dual filament bulb   FWIW, it will look odd - I dare say a bit dumb as it looks like your flasher relay has shit the bed.
    • If the RB20 box in the car is a push clutch, then yes, you will need to deal with the pull clutch on the turbo box. You either buy a pull clutch and don't use the old one, or you do the things needed to convert the turbo box's clutch arrangement over to push. Which is a bit of a f**karound. "Making" a custom tailshaft is the easy part. But you will need to source the front clip yoke - the bit that goes into the output of the gearbox. These are not as easy to find. They are out there, but they don't grow on trees the way that they used to.
    • Indicator bulbs are way too bright to use as a "corner marker" (we call them parking lights too). Sure. Go ahead and do it. But realise that you wil need to come up with all your own wiring to do it, as no-one will have a standard howto worked out for Skylines. It's just a matter of abandoning everything that Nissan have done and starting from scratch. You'd probably be better off retrofitting tailght/brakelight globe bases into the front indicator housings and using the taillight circuit for your corner marker and the brake light as the indicator. You'd need to work out how to kill the marker circuit while the indicator is flashing, otherwise it won't flash on-off, just bright-less bright.
    • Hi. A little bit of an update. It maybe(hope not) looks like i would need a new tranny(it would be "maybe" a cheaper or better option anyway) So i need some info. I know i need a different propshaft(i can make custom one) LSD is not a problem cuz the engine will be still(for now) N/A RB20. So if i buy RB25DET NEO tranny...is there something else i need? I read something about push/pull type but i do not know if i need to "change" something or i can just plug n play onto my engine a go? Thanks for the advice
    • Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
