Finally........ Sourced a correct new JDM style battery 390 CCA's vs 430 CCA's for ADM's with factory battery box/cover and correct positive terminal cover.

Next........ On to some body work...........

Bob.

what kind of body work Bob?

Here is the brief so far........

  • Bit of rust at the bottom of the driver's side rear qtr panel. Size of a 1c piece if any on you can remember what they look like!;)
  • Replace driver's side rear qtr window and inspect for rust.
  • Re-do poorly repaired paintless dent also on driver's side rear qtr panel,
  • Remove, paint and re-fit driver's side skirts.
  • Remove both front and rear windscreens, fit new fasteners and moulds. (Already sourced).
  • Replace passenger side taillight. (Hairline crack, also already sourced).

this is more like restoration / repair

You should of created a restoration buil thread Bob

Not really......... It's mainly the driver's side rear QTR that needs work.

Quite common on 32's for some reason.

I'll book it in for August 18, just after the 25th Anniversary weekend.

quite common??? Most R32s are riddled with rust.

It is not until you start looking deeper that you find it.

Considering the age of the cars it is only natural that rust eventually sinks in.

Glad you are doing something about it though

ADM's don't rust, mine is clean as a whistle :)

come and see me I will find rust. Trust me I have an eye for this

Especially rear wing stay brackets and rear bumper brackets corrode like mad, even in Australia.

We are one gigantic island, with most of us living along the coastline so rust will happen just a matter of time - just need treat it before it gets to you

Tell me about it, 3 kids under 4 though means very little bandwidth

I have two 1 four yo and one who just turned 8 months - I still find time to restore and use my GTR

I had 3 under 2 and a half........ :wacko::wacko::wacko::wacko::wacko::wacko::wacko::wacko:

Boy first then twin girls......

Boy is nearly 25 and girls are 22.

I didn't have time to scratch myself.

Bob.

I know the feeling Bob.

I recently bought a ralliart magna which also pulled me away from my GTR, fun daily driver but it's a magna

lol could of been an Evo at least :P

But it gets better as they get older - it's the first 4-5 years that can be demanding

My 4 yo daughter is not only beautiful but amazing

Recently I have been taking her to club events with me and she loved it and lives being in the GTR

She also likes to help me when I work on the GTR.

The passion I have for the car is so obvious that it's becoming a passion for her and that just puts a huge smile on face

I only have girls but if they get involved with Motorsport at some stage then that will be amazing - if they don't well U don't care because they will always be my amazing little girls

    • I hope one day I can do it like you. Your engine looks great.
    • If there's nothing else I can do I'll probably do something like that Someone on the internet said that ca20s and ca18 engine blocks are the same and that you can use a ca20 engine block and put ca18det parts to make a ca20det Do you think this is possible or will it damage the engine?
    • Yeah, I did some research and found out that some things are different.
    • Makes sense, thanks! Consider me very impressed. And I very much appreciate the effort in documentating all of it. You'd be surprised, or maybe not, how many people this reaches who search for things online. Anyways, I shall continue to read all of it, understand maybe a quarter, and hope that some of it sticks if I ever end up in a situation where it's relevant
    • 'Did' work on them is more accurate ~ on the R31 Skyline forum, you can spot me as 'Solder'... I've written quite a bit about the 4R01 boxes there, and I ended up reverse-engineering the older TCU type operations, so we could fudge a custom TCU to pull off other tricks...and like all things, when you do it a lot, see the failure patterns, have to find parts etc etc, your head ends up filled with whys and wherefores... there was a reason Nissan went with these in more than 60models over 16+ years... all in all, the JR401E based design is an interesting study, as Nissan changed things over the years in a never ending battle against them lunching on themselves <grin>...by the time the RE4R01A rev.C came out (often referred to as RE4R01B), they'd more or less perfected the design...
