In case you have missed it.

It looks like this will add to the current bill that is in the QLD palmernet regarding hoon laws and crushing.

All the info is here.

^yes, exactly. any car can reach 100+ and that's when they will start losing control of the vehicle. it's a problem with the driver NOT the vehicle - though the vehicle aids in the behaviour, the vehicle is NOT to blame.

So really, the recommendations made: driving school, defensive courses etc are in the right direction, instead of saying "ban high performance cars" fullstop.

Pisasale must not be able to read, young drivers are already banned from cars over 125kw/ton. I agree wholeheartedly about better learner training and defensive driving courses though.

Goverments not going to waste their money on saving potential lives through offering defensive driving courses

or goverment sponsored track days, or having school driving courses.....it shits me when i hear of all the money

being wasted in programs such as the home insulation program. Goverment is just so beauracratic that there is no

big idea's for these types of issues, its always just 'BAN'....ban guns, ban cars, ban drugs ETC ETC. Their not interested

in actually helping and solving the issue they like to blame the tools and not the user. we need a national petition to help organise this, grassroots

type of organising by car clubs, forums etc who are crying out for these types of programs because at the end of the day will never get this

from our goverment unless someone up high is going to lose an election or their job.

To be honest most young guys think they have more skill than what they really do.

But to be honest again a standard newish 6 cyl commonwhore/falcadoore has more power than your average import/high performance jap type car.

People will always crash because people are mostly stupid, mostly.

"too many young people are being killed in high-performance cars." yet its almost always someone in a "normal" car that are dieing on our roads, in 2012 I can't remember 1 young person dieing in what would be considered a high-performance in SA

they would rather blame people like us and keep the brain washed public voting for them then really do something that might help like teaching people how to control a car and not just pass a test

This is already happening. have a look at the grunt files link I put in the original post. They are campaign against the stupid hoon laws in QLD, and also have a lot of research data that proves enthusiasts are not the main issue.

This argument has been going on for more than 40 yrs that I can recall, I got my licence in 1980 and the police were after all the high performance cars and the kids driving them, (me in my Cooper or LJ).

And now with the greenies getting on board about "performance type" cars with their planet killing exhaust fumes things will only get worse.

I do believe that keeping young people out of V8's and turbo performance type cars is a good thing, young people with no skills will buy whatever they think is cool, being able to control that power doesnt cross their minds.

I think you should have your full licence and driver training for any performance type car or a modified vehicle.

Though in the real world this wouldnt work due to the lack of skill and/or motivation by the general population in having to do the training.

My 2 cents of old man ranting

I agree with the impoundment of people actually driving dangerously on the roads. 100%.

What I don't agree with is the fact that Mr Police Officer himself has the authority to make the call as to whether or not you can get your car impounded/crushed on his own, without even the rights to contest in a court of law.

Cheers,

Shazza

Where is this info from, Im under the impression that no cars have been crushed at all in Australia and you need to be doing something pretty stupid for the police to impound a car.

The police are there to enforce the law, dont brake the law or be a tool and you will not have problems, easy.

I have never had a problem with the police unless it was my fault, even my stupidly modified car has never had a problem, maybe because I did it right and had it engineered and legal for use on NSW roads.

The info about crushing relate to a bill that is currently in the QLD parliament waiting approval. if approved the following will be allowed.

First type 1 hoon offence (in QLD) 3 month impoundment.

2nd type 1 hoon offence either forfeit the car or crushed.

These will be dealt with admisteritivly, I.E. taking away the power of a judge and giving that power to the police.

Have a look on the grunt file web site as they are leading the campaign to alter the perception of enthusiasts in Australia and stop this bill getting passed.

And I have also heard (need to confirm) that cars are currently been crushed in SA (about 100 so far)

And don’t think this only applies to QLD. If they bring it in other states will most certainty follow.

NA Subaru a performance car? I'm pretty sure a clapped out camry or commodore would be quicker then that. Crashes are due to inexperienced and stupid drivers cannot handle the car or try to drive outside their range of skill.

given how many P platers i see in imports doing stupid things these days, i can see where the authorities are coming from. especially since the rise in popularity of drifting. more and more young guys (mostly) are buying clapped out imports and dropping them as low as they can (which makes them handle like arse on anything other than the smoothest road), and going out doing skids. most P platers like to pretend that this doesn't happen (even if they are one of the people doing it) and seem to have some sort of twisted view that they are just having a bit of fun and not hurting anyone and the police, etc are overreacting.

at the end of the day, if you drive sensibly then you don't have anything to worry about from the police.

Agreed, but the crash statistics don't match the level of media coverage imports get or the level of police attention. They should bring power to weight restrictions and compulsory defensive driving courses for all new drivers, and if they cry that they cant afford $250 or so for a course how can you afford to buy and run a car?

True, but the ones the police are supposedly trying to stop are the fatal crashes. Around 300 people die in QLD every year and it is only every now and then a death in a performance car is heard of. It all comes down to drivers ability, the condition of the road and the condition of the car. I did a defensive driving course with my high school at the end of year 12 and it was probably the best thing I could have done, it showed me how easy it is to lose control and that I was a long way from being able to get myself out of serious trouble. Driving tests also need to be overhauled so they focus on competency and not errors committed, it is possible to pass and be a hopeless driver just by not stuffing up (like my Mrs did).

Agree with power to weight restrictions. Is it still the case where a 17 yr old "P" Plater can buy a 210KW SV6 Ute no problem, but because a turbo diesel VW Polo has a "Turbo" on it, it's a No No from the govt?
